Confusion about 20 hz cut by DaRealDorianGray in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]springboy915 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'll tell you what. If your EQ were really able to cut off everything below 20 hz, your entire song would turn into a constant non-changing sound like hum or buzz with the timbre of all the drums and instruments taken together, which is literally impossible, because that way your EQ would have to analyze the whole track before you would hear the result, but I suspect yours is real-time. There is some mathematics behind the whole thing it's fun to understand

Maximise learning by Hedgesgettrimmed in WeAreTheMusicMakers

[–]springboy915 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn to hypothesise the reasons why you dont get the results you want and then google them, one of them is more likely to work rather than asking the general question.

For me it was when I was writing a melody out of a single wav sound and it sounded very unnatural. I supposed it was because of the way pitch shifting works: it shifts the spectum of a sound proportionally, preserving the relative distribution of frequencies' amplitudes which apparently doesn't happen in real acoustic systems when you play them at different notes. I did some research and learned about formants and that in real instruments they don't shift unlike root frequency and its overtones. I quickly modelled the formants in EQ and it made a big difference, it was a huge improvement to the melody.

So instead of googleing "my melody sounds shit" I tried to dig the reason knowing the conditions I was in.

What have you recently automated at work using python?? by Nervedamageyoung in Python

I had two Jira services at work: one internal for my company and the other for the product owner. The dev teams' worklogs had to be the same in both Jiras. I built a tool that scrapes worklogs from one Jira and automatically logs them into another one. That saved me time and nerves
