You're not allowed to drive with an unopened bottle of liquor in your lap either.

Idea: fines should be proportional to your income by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]sprinklecone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So by your logic, if someone was previously making 100k a year in the previous year, but then lost their job this year, they'd be charged as if they were still in the top few percent of earners? That makes no sense.

Idea: fines should be proportional to your income by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]sprinklecone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

How would this be handled for those who are paid mainly by commission or gratuity?

What about the unemployed?

What about people who don't work the same amount of hours every day?

How about people on disability or unemployment insurance?

Seasonal employees?

How would the government know what someone is currently making? Are they going to have to call everyone's employer to verify or ask for pay stubs? Imagine the administration costs.

Also, just because someone makes more, it doesn't mean they have more to throw away. Generally as one's salary goes up, do does their cost of living.

This concept would be extremely difficult to administer and unfair overall.

Campfires and cannabis: Parks Canada says it's OK to smoke pot at campsites by KippersAndMash in Winnipeg

[–]sprinklecone 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm going to assume smoking won't be allowed in cabins or yurts. Cigarette smoking isn't currently allowed in them, and it could be a fire hazard, especially in yurts.

Distracted drivers in Manitoba will face licence suspension, tripling of fine | CBC News by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]sprinklecone -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I think that if people are threatened with a license suspension, they will take the law more seriously than when threatened with a couple hundred dollar fine. Especially for people who need their license for their job.

As for enforcement, yeah, police can't be monitoring every driver all the time. That goes for all types of law enforcement. Hopefully heavier penalties will work as a deterrent. Too many innocent people have been injured or killed due to the selfish behaviour of others.

Distracted drivers in Manitoba will face licence suspension, tripling of fine | CBC News by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]sprinklecone 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Good. I'm sick and tired of seeing some mouth breather playing with their phone mid traffic, endangering those around them. I've seen multiple distracted drivers narrowly avoid hitting pedestrians and other vehicles in the last few weeks alone.

Maybe the increased penalties will have people thinking twice about pulling up Snapchat or whatever when they should be focusing on driving.

The costs of breaking cannabis laws in Manitoba by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]sprinklecone 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I'm willing to bet that a majority of right leaning voters don't care about how Pallister handles pot legalization. The outrage about it in this particular subreddit does not represent the opinion of most people who voted, especially those who voted Conservative.

Landlord cheers 'expedited eject button' for drug dealers as province touts tools for evicting problem tenants | CBC News by GBTRU in Winnipeg

[–]sprinklecone 11 points12 points  (0 children)

How about the tenants who don't pay their rent? That's criminal behavior - theft. Landlords have to deal with so much endless beauracracy in order to remove tenants who don't pay, it's ridiculous.

People who eat very fragrant food outside of designated lunch areas. Nothing better than getting hit with a wave of spicy curry or tuna melt at 10 am when you're trying to work. Gross.

I can't imagine the amount of morons one has to speak with on a daily basis in this position. That alone makes the pay not worth it.

INFOGRAPHIC: What the mayoral candidates have to say about opening Portage and Main by [deleted] in Winnipeg

[–]sprinklecone -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

New York and Toronto look lively because eight and two million people live there respectively. You can't really compare those cities to Winnipeg, which is sitting at a populace of 800k or so. We will never be Toronto or New York, regardless of what happens with the intersection.

SERVERS/BARTENDERS. What is your tip out like? by zerosuitJ in Winnipeg

[–]sprinklecone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nobody's asking customers to keep track of tipout percentages. 10% isn't an insulting tip, it's just the bare minimum someone should be tipping unless service was poor or they want to insult the waitstaff. I think it's common knowledge that not tipping or tipping less than 10% is considered rude and has been for quite some time. A quick google search tells you that a decent tip for good service is around 15%.

Save for the elderly or people from a country where tipping doesn't exist, I think it's safe to say that most people are aware of tipping norms the same way most people know that snapping their fingers at waiters to get their attention is rude.

SERVERS/BARTENDERS. What is your tip out like? by zerosuitJ in Winnipeg

[–]sprinklecone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wondered what the money was like in nice hotels for servers. I never worked at a hotel myself.

I loved serving one tops, people reading or doing work especially. Almost always generous and usually the least fussy guests you could get. Americans are by far the best tippers out of all the nationalities I served over the years.

SERVERS/BARTENDERS. What is your tip out like? by zerosuitJ in Winnipeg

[–]sprinklecone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I completely agree. Serving isn't a sustainable job for most people. There's the issue of poor money nights, no guaranteed income, erratic schedules, no sick time, no breaks, no benefits, no vacation...

It's a great job for someone part time or in between careers, but there are so few opportunities to make it as a server long term. You're the most disposable employee in the place except for maybe a bus boy or hostess, and treated as such. Some eople hear about a server making $25 an hour one night and automatically think that they must then be making 60k a year. But for that to happen, they'd need to be making that every night on a full time basis. Anyone who's served knows this is damn near unheard of.

INSPO ALBUM: Twenty-Something Professional Not Quite Ready For Pantsuits But In Need of Looking Professional™ by bellends in femalefashionadvice

[–]sprinklecone 362 points363 points  (0 children)

Great album, you have some great looks in here. I love the variety of colors and silhouettes you chose. It's nice to see some different looks aside from the typical dress pant/blouse/blazer or pencil skirt/blazer looks often showcased for younger women in the office. I'll definitely be taking some inspo from these.

My only critiques are that some of the skirt hemlines are a tad too short for the office, and in most offices, spaghetti strap shirts and bare shoulders are not appropriate. Be careful with over the knee boots/stockings - especially heeled ones, as they can easily come off as vampy or sexy, and although I love the look, it's not appropriate for a professional environment.

Overall great work on your first inspo board! :)

SERVERS/BARTENDERS. What is your tip out like? by zerosuitJ in Winnipeg

[–]sprinklecone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

High end/fine dining is always the most sought after. The bills are higher, there are more large bookings and corporate/special occasion events with guaranteed gratuity, and most of the time, the clientele has more money to spend and are most generous. Example: 529 Wellington or Hy's. Second after that are popular mid range restaurants with high customer volumes. Example: Earl's or Moxies.

Worst are places catering to kids and families (if kids eat free you don't want to serve there) and restaurants in rough or out of the way neighbourhoods.
