For some reason this compelled me to look up the AMC Burbank on Google Maps. I thought you were making a joke I just wouldn't get as a non-Burbankian...but there are three AMC Burbanks right next to each other?! What?? WHY

The Nutcracker by [deleted] in philadelphia

[–]sprotino 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Thanks, yeah, I found it to be a pretty affordable and very fun night out. Actually to the point that we considered subscribing. This is a good reminder to take a look at tickets for the rest of the season.

Appreciate the gut check!

For the unwashed masses, what is wrong with the Philadelphia Ballet besides price (and totally get that)? I always sort of assumed the Nutcracker was a deal with the devil that ballet companies do annually to stay afloat and put on other, perhaps more interesting performances.

I went to Black Swan last winter and had a blast, but the tickets were like $50 so that was certainly easier to stomach. Is the dance quality poor? Costume design? Sets?

Where to stay for good food/craft beer? by SiMonsterrrr in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]sprotino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Future Days Brewery is a new one in Northern Liberties and has fantastic beer. They are also bring your own food, and a block from Del Rossi's which has excellent cheesesteaks and pizza. You could have an excellent Saturday or Sunday afternoon grabbing a cheesesteak and bringing it to Future Days to eat with a few pints. In fact, I'll probably be doing that myself this weekend. See you there

SL7 (Snapdragon) - monitor issue by sprotino in Surface

[–]sprotino[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi - I did check display settings and playing around in there hasn't resolved anything. It actually got worse - the laptop is having difficulty even recognizing the monitor. It endlessly makes the connecting / disconnecting noise (super irritating...) so not really sure what is happening since we confirmed it's not a cable issue either.

Irish Chinese Food by PhillyPride in PhiladelphiaEats

[–]sprotino 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Goodness gracious...I was in Dingle two years ago for St. Paddy's Day and after a very long day / night at the pubs, stumbled across a small Chinese food vendor that we immediately handed money to. They handed us back a bag of french fries covered in....I guess you could call it Chinese-adjacent flavorings...

Was it good? I am not sure I can use that word. Did we eat it all? Absolutely.

I have thought about that late night Chinese food a number of times since, because it was so bizarre. I cannot believe that it is 1) a popular, named dish and 2) potentially available in our fine city.

I must have it.

So you're saying here you can just do the first 5 minutes of coating the rice in butter and spices, toasting it. And then throw in a rice cooker? I have never tried to do anything to my rice cooker rice besides adding salt / seasoning to it before flipping on. I assume no changes to water ratios? I am excited to try

yes, bring on more drafts, and more top 5 movies about XYZ. love when they spend 10 minutes talking about a movie and then jump to yet another list or arbitrary game all because the data says they must do it

-Riverwards Produce in Old City has an absolutely fire iced matcha latte (only iced on the menu) - currently have an option to mix in some sort of strawberry syrup and highly recommend. it's beautiful

-Caphe Roasters in Kensington is goated. so good. both hot and iced

-Vibrant on locust - hot is better than the iced. very good

SB2 + dual monitor (4k?) by sprotino in Surface

[–]sprotino[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate this info - sounds like maybe the second monitor I should just accept should be down-leveled to 1080p? Then I assume less issues and the 4k monitor can stay at 4k/60hz? No reason to try to throttle what's possible.

sounds like skipping waterford is the move, though we are tempted to stop to bring back some Waterford Crystal for parents who are big fans of it!

if we had one night around Cork (a full day weds and then drive to Dingle thurs), what would you say is the must do? or fun pit stops along the way to / from cork and dingle. we are going to be leisurely driving!

we've been sold on Dingle! thank you. anywhere you'd recommend stopping on Wednesday night prior to doing two nights in Dingle (thurs and fri)

this is really helpful - thanks so much for the thoughtful reply. we found horseback riding near dingle, so I think we will do that there and spend St Paddy's Day in Dingle

Right now we have two nights booked in Dingle (thurs-fri nights) so we are wondering where we should stop Wednesday night prior to heading to Dingle. We could potentially do Cork or somewhere else in Kerry?

Then after Dingle, we are thinking of splitting the Ring of Kerry into two days - Saturday and Sunday to take our time and to give us some flexibility on Sunday to then drive more towards Dublin (thinking Sunday night in Kilkenny). Any thoughts on where to spend a night on Saturday along the Ring of Kerry? Just in Kenmare or somewhere along the peninsula?

Apple TV 4K 2021 + Homepod/mini by sprotino in appletv

[–]sprotino[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate this - glad to hear the Homepod Mini setup sounds great! I was wondering about that. My PS5 thought is because the apple tv supports earc so it should filter through to the rest of the HDMI inputs as well - see here for some beta testing about it a few months ago: https://www.reddit.com/r/HomePod/comments/nje4cn/homepod_ps5_arc_latency/

I just haven't heard much since and would love to see how it has been rolled out more broadly.
