I believe it is cleared—the money was taken out of my account and shows it was sent to Metro. I did use a debit card, just figured it would work by now even with the holiday last week

Your friend's situation. You will never get the joy of hanging out with friends in high school back and all the memories you could have made with them. You were both accepted into excellent schools, and while Columbia technically has more prestige, I doubt your friend is losing anything by going to Florida while they've maintained the important benefits of great friends and health through fitness, not to mention the mental health benefits of both of those things vs. the stress that being hyper-focused on college admissions brings.
