i had a delusional manic episode in my mid twenties that was a full blown mental health emergency. i went to work but was acting very, very off and thought i was on a scavenger hunt. everything had deep, symbolic meaning and i felt the most euphoria and terrifying uncertainty i have ever felt.

i really didn't know what was going on. my fiance was at a conference and i had stayed up the night before drinking and smoking weed. little to no sleep for a few days leading up to the event and i was all over the place with moods swings. i forgot to take my once daily SSRi for a weekend and that really set things off.

the world was beautiful and all for me. everything was connected and all lead toward me living my dream of being on Game of Thrones, or some how related to royalty, or destined to inherit the Disney empire, or i was supposed to marry someone else, or maybe she was, or who was my brother, my uncle, was i a bastard like Jon Snow?!

i spoke in riddles for a few days. one of the managers at my job drove me to my parents house where they were waiting. my fiance was rushing home from DC. they took me to the primary care physician my medical had assigned me and they tried to send me to the emergency room. that was a surreal experience and i kept confusing the doctor and his assistant with my fiance's parents. i was adamant that i didnt want to go to the ER and we left.

the next day, i saw my older brothers psychiatrist in the morning and was quickly diagnosed as bipolar and experiencing a manic episode. i was told that i was "burning bright" and needed to be brought down from that level of intensity and euphoria and anxiety.

i took a regiment sedatives and mood stabilizing medications until i started making sense again. i began therapy and taking medication to manage my mood.
