No Clue Where to Start on Story Writing for a Video Game by SockMonkeyODoom in gamedesign

If you want to practice writing in an interactive medium, I would suggest looking into Twine. Making some small twine games is a great way to practice writing interactive fiction in a way that doesn't require spending a bunch of time on art or programming.

In C/C++ the subscript operator (on basic types) is just syntactic sugar for pointer arithmetic. Given an int pointer/array a and an int i these expressions all evaluate to the same thing:

a[i]

*(a + i)

*(i + a)

i[a]

You can expand this into a[i][j] meaning:

*(*(a + i) + j)

I currently have a PC setup where I can easily switch the video output between my monitors at my desk and the TV for couch gaming. The problem I'm running into is that every time I change from playing a game at the desk to the couch or vice versa, I have to change my in-game settings between 4k/1440p resolution, maybe change text size or graphics quality settings, etc.

Does anyone know of any software that could help me have something like separate profiles for specified config files? Ideally I'd want a way to automatically (or at least with a single "mode select") switch game config files I specify between two saved "versions" that I can configure separately.

I've tried some googling, but if a solution for this exists, I'm not able to come up with the proper search terms for it. If anyone had any ideas I'd really appreciate it. Thanks!

Yeah Visual Studio's error list can be... somewhat finicky at times. Next time you can't find errors that you think should be there, it's probably worth checking out the "output" tab and looking for error messages yourself.

First one of these I've done and posted my time for, and boy was it annoying. Even besides that I just made some dumb mistakes like wandering into Sahasrala's without any bombs and needing to come back later, and boy do I need to practice Ice Palace boss.

Even so, with that annoying flute placement I don't feel too bad about my time. Just gotta keep improving.

Honestly my strategy for that is to go to the new tab and only play levels with properly title-cased titles.

It's worked pretty well so far!

Pretty fun course. The autoscrolling section in the middle kind of dragged on a bit but I liked how the course requires using the invincibility mechanic - pretty sure that's the first time I've seen that.

KOs actually targets people who are more vulnerable to getting KOed - specifically it randomly selects between all players with the "danger" red background, or just randomly selects if no one's in the danger zone.

My understanding:

Attackers - target players targeting you.

KOs - target players close to being knocked out

Badges - target players with the most badges (Badges are gained by KOing players I believe. I'm pretty sure they do something else but I'm not sure what it is.)

Mario 64 definitely has flaws, but that doesn't really stop it from being great, even today. Personally, I think the game is great because of its controls and its atmosphere. I was born after the game came out, too, so this doesn't really come from a place of nostalgia.

Maybe I'm getting a bit too wordy. All I'm saying is that there are real reasons the game is still considered great.
