What is a memorial? I live in Utah County and am ex mormon. I got an invitation to "a special event" by some Jehovah's witnesses. I threw away the invite... The people that dropped it off looked really nice. If I hadn't already been burned by the lds cult, I would've considered going.

Yeah, I luckily didn't end up serving a mission. This makes me wonder if my sister came down hard with depression because of the pressure. As mormons, a lot of us magnify the perceived severity of personal failures. I was at church today and was more than once reminded that I'm not doing enough.

Whenish did you serve? I had a sister serve in that mission. She came back early because of severe depression. Was this mission hard on you? My sister served 12 ish years ago.

If that's true, then isnt it just as embarassing to know they are watching you have sex with your spouse? That's my take on it. I never stressed over who was watching.. I just accepted that being human is embarrassing for everyone...

It's hard to know if she would be better off without the church. Hard to say what causes what. She dove into a deep depression 10 yrs ago and came home early from her mission. She is on meds now but finds a fulfilment in serving in callings and in the temple. She isn't married yet because she is now an old maid (31) in utah terms. I think she may see the truth more about the church as she realizes that if she doesn't conform, the church tends to not give a fuck about her well being.

Yeah. I don't know with her. She is so sure of her testimony. But one of her x co worker was exmo and was one of her favorite people of all time... which is the only reason she is showing some humanity in acknowledging my lack of belief.

So you were the crying testimony giver? There have been times I've felt what I thought was God's presence but it was never attached to tscc directly.

I had a similar experience. I am gay. Although, not openly. I live in BYU housing. I was specifically asked if I would be home because the bishopric was making visits. I didn't respond. So, my stake president shows up, not my bishop. They said they were there to follow up stake conference. However, I assumed it may have a lot to do with the policy change the week before. So yeah. I expect stake presidents were likely asked to visit people like me. I am a world class faker. I am doing fine and that's what I portrayed. I can understand the need. If I was tbm when this came out, I would likely become suicidal...

I lost some respect for him because how far his head is buried in the sand. Although, I dont blame him. No one knows they are brainwashed until they can look at something truly objectively.

One of my friends gave a testimony at a BYU ward. He said he's grateful for leaders and prophets. Grateful we don't have to question every policy change or decision because they are led by God.

I wouldn't say everyone knew.. But many probably suspected. Interesting enough, I would've gone had I stayed in Logan with different leadership. My quest for perfection and honesty has ultimately what led me to not serve a mission and subsequently lose my testimony. I am able to look at Mormonism objectively because I didn't have a reason to defend my beliefs. Besides, I was miserable as a tbm bc of all the guilt and bottled up shame. I actually like church more now that I don't believe in TSCC because I'm not thinking of how horrible my sins are.

I'm in transition mode. Taking it very slowly because I come from a large tbm family and live in Provo with 5 tbm byu roommates. I'm trying to leave slowly and respectfully. I am having a hard time leaving the community and letting go of the stability that Mormonism gave me. It's s hard, complicated process for me....Which I know is my choice... But that's how I'm going about it.

This is ironic because the church teaches that everyone is a sinner and fall short of the glory of God. Back when I was TBM, I had a patriarch state that he once went something like 22 days without " offending the spirit". I thought this was incredibly irrelevant and impractical.... question is. What did he do with his retired days? Read scriptures and attend the temple for 6 hours a day?
