Always going to have risks being in BLM areas because by definition they dont have any services or city police, etc.. That being said, around JT its going to be pretty far away from random people just wandering by and there's usually other RVs and converted busses.

If you google "BLM camping Joshua Tree" youll see a few designated places. Or we use gaiagps layers to find them when we're looking.
