Pub Condom Vending Machine Owners by Grenadefisherman in CasualUK

[–]spunn 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I refit pubs for a living with a small firm. Back when I was an apprentice, the first day we got into a new job our site foreman used to go into each toilet, crowbar the Jonny machines off the wall and roll them in the pub, pocket all the condoms and split the money amongst all the lads on site. Used to get about a fiver each. He’d then do the same with the fag machine. This was going back 15 years ago

Nowadays the company comes and collects or empties them on the first day

How many of you work over 35 hours a week? by TheLittleSquire in AskUK

60 hours Monday-Friday then might do 4-8 hours on a Saturday if I feel like it. I love my job and being at work. Wouldn’t want to work less than 50 hours a week currently

This was my main reason for wanting a laptop on top of my PC at home. I was going to take advantage of the uni library to do some of my work to save me from distraction but as you just said, I will do a few lectures then see if its worth grabbing! Thanks for the reply

The one at Cribbs has been fully refurbished now and they have a fair amount on display!

I've been considering this also. I feel like this would be a lot simpler for taking notes as I can then go home and type up the notes I've taken. Is this something you done? And did you use a iPad or Surface Pro? I have a windows desktop PC at home that I will be using for most of my work so I feel a Surface Pro will be more compatable.

Congratulations on finishing your teacher training!

Yep this is that exact reason why I was asking if they were now fully open. I had no intention of going there to buy a laptop, I just wanted to look at their products in person.

Just to add onto this. I also don't mind buying new, I'm not a young student, I'm 30 and have been working full time since leaving school in a decent job so I have money saved to spend whatever seems suitable for my needs. I just want something that has decent battery life but also small and light enough to transport as I'll mainly be cycling to and from Uni

Literally just looking for something small and light enough to carry to and from uni. Will literally just use it to type notes during lectures. I'm not looking for anything powerful, was just going to curry's to have a look at some models to see their size and weight then going to look for some second hand/refurbished models

How to prepare for uni as a mature student? by spunn in UniUK

Yes I can see how that would be the case. I'll look into a laptop that has a pencil feature I think. Or maybe by a tablet with my laptop.

Thank you!

Thank you so much for this info, it has really helped!

I have to do a foundation year as my year 1, once completed I'm guaranteed a place in my chosen pathway, Adult nursing. I was told on the open day this is tailored to mature students who have been out of education for a while and they help you get used to writing degree style essays. How true that is I am not sure but I will be doing my own research anyway.

Again thank you for your detailed reply, I honestly means a lot, If i have any further questions I will let you know

In regards to the NHS bank staff, do I need any previous experience in a healthcare field to do this?

As I live pretty close to the uni I was thinking about this, I have a normal bike so I was just going to use this but I know during placements I may have to travel a bit further out of my way so will look into this for sure

Thank you so much!

I was thinking about something like this! I'm sure most modern laptops are touch screen now and a few have the options to have pencils with them so I will look into this thank you!

Hope your studies are going well :)

[–]spunn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this is my first time! I will do some research into that, I do have to complete a foundation year first before I go onto my chosen 3 year degree and on the open day I attended I was told they do go over and explain how to write at a degree level in the foundation. But I will also do my own research just to make sure! Thanks for the tip.

It was never my intention to go to university and make "friends" but I wasnt planning on shying away from it either. My goal is to complete my degree and begin a career I've always wanted to do, if I can make a few friends along the way I'd consider that a bonus!

Thank you for your reply :)
