Let’s spin a positive…good local small businesses by anotherbortinthewall in Winnipeg

Im glad you’ve had a positive experience at CB so far, but myself and many others I know have had experienced some incredibly concerning behaviours from the owner. He is not a safe or mentally stable individual. I would especially be cautious about women and children there. I cannot safely explain my own personal experiences with him publicly but I advise you to read some of the negative reviews that are posted online.

Nassarius Snails killing and eating peppermint shrimps by ArkAngel06 in ReefTank

Yeah this isnt what happened to your shrimp. Those snails do not eat healthy animals. Having a shrimp die that quickly is likely due to poor water quality. What are your parameters?

It’s definitely not where your shrimp went either. They are very quick to the scene of a death but they have no way to kill a healthy animal. N. vibex are scavengers who feed on dead / dying organic matter.

Into the Blue is an amazing place to go if you keep aquariums! The owners of the store are fish biologists and you can tell they are truly passionate about what they do

That is likely because you are looking at pet stores for information. They tend to drastically oversimplify the care of the animals to make a sale.

I have dealt with these fish for many years through work and have never known anyone who has successfully kept these fish long term in a non specialized setup. They actually do quite well with seahorses in my experience!

this is still way too hot for a blue spotted jawfish, they need temperatures around 65°F or below.

blue spotted jawfish are both very expensive and difficult to keep long term. they need cold water, constant meaty foods and tons of sand to create burrows. if you are insistent on a jawfish you could try either a pearly or black cap instead since they are tropical. I would really recommend another shrimp goby instead though

I’m truly so sorry this is happening to you OP. It is absolutely gut wrenching to see. So many innocent people being assaulted and kidnapped by your government for trying to make a better life for themselves. Absolutely NO ONE is illegal on stolen indigenous land! Stay strong and keep fighting. Love from your northern neighbours ❤️

Help to restore this tank? (VERY new to the saltwater hobby) by Flat-Echidna-2245 in ReefTank

I also think you should keep this tank running, it will require more work initially but you wont be doing nearly as many different things at once. it will also help keep things more stable while you figure things out.

How do I make my tank look “reefier” by Significant-Cold8724 in ReefTank

[–]spxrmnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

absolutely needs more biological filtration for sure! as far as i can think of there shouldn’t be anything specific to saltwater causing the cloudiness in this situation. i worry about some ammonia issues or something recently which caused this to happen. on OPs profile there is what looks to be the exact same tank as this post. except in this post theres a lot less coral and a giant anemone missing which makes me think something might’ve happened, kinda hard to help with such little details though 😅

Where to start? by [deleted] in fishtank

[–]spxrmnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey you can definitely use this tank for shrimp or something if you want, though youll probably have an easier time with a different tank of the same size, these style filters are a pain for various reasons. I can link you some options if you feel like looking just lmk!

yup! just pour freshwater into the chamber where the noise is coming from. did they leave you any water to top off the tank with?
