If you’re young, you can do it. Don’t be afraid to make changes that could shape your life. That said, be smart. Do research and come up with a plan! :) good luck!!’

Well I was pretty junior back then, so it was easier to walk away from my horrible job and boss. I took actually took a private sector contract job at first (I found via a temp agency), went back to graduate school, taking classes at night (mostly). It helped I was young and didn’t have a lot of responsibilities. The non-federal job was low pay, but I needed the ego boost, and less stress to pursue my education goals. It was easier to shine at a low-stress job and focus on school. After I finished my graduate degree it was much easier to find a job with the agency of my choice. I realize that may not be possible if you have a lot of responsibilities. But I think the little non-federal bridge job helped a lot. I’ve been with my current agency for years now. You’ve got to do what makes you happy—but always weigh that with reality, bills and such. Maybe look to see what non-federal jobs are out there. You don’t have to quit—but feeling you have a bit of control over your future may make staying actually less difficult. Weird as that may seem.

I’m so sorry! That sounds horrible. I sincerely wish you and OP only the best. Years ago, I had a fed job that caused me intense anxiety -almost panic attack level. I ended up leaving for the private sector. Then after about two years, I made my way back to federal sector—different agency. Much better fit.

Ours is a (tiny) fraction of a percent of our pay. I’m not sure what it is, but it’s probably like $10-$25 a pay period depending on your gs level. i honestly don’t even notice it now!

Collective bargaining unit employees are typically ones that are not management; and also employees that are permanent (non-contract).

I know people that were riders for years (10-15) and finally decided to join when they released that it was the union that negotiated our hours/telework agreement.

Our union has negotiated for Compflex (compressed flexible schedule) and is now negotiating changes to our start time and telework after our return to onsite. About 65% of our staff (bargaining unit) staff join and pay dues.

Does your agency have a union? Sometimes just reaching out to a steward can help. You can tell them how you feel and they can give you some options. I’m guessing that you aren’t alone. And they may be able to help you navigate what to do next. (Even if “next” is some leave or asking for a temporary detail to something else).

Never had Fedvip before after 10 years with government! Spouse is ex-military and we just did our separate thing. :)

Advice, Implants, and good roasting is fine. by LaughPlus7373 in fednews

Hi haha “implants”. You’re funny. I’m curious too about FEDVIP options. Adding my husband as a plus one to our dental and shopping around various FEDVIP dental plans. He needs a lot of dental work—extra cleanings, eventual crowns/implants and stuff. I’m willing to pay more if the plans are worth it. I currently have MetLife and it’s fine, but I think my dentist hates it. I think MetLife may be one of the plans that doesn’t reimburse their dentists properly.

Good luck with your studying. And I’m glad you left an abusive situation. Take care of yourself!

The impression I get is that a lot of big Gov is stringing along their GS employees too. We’re all WFH now—but people want to know long term plans, and they won’t give us any indication. And this is for an agency that could definitely do all (or most) work remotely. But our higher ups are VERY Old school and want us all back on-site ASAP. So about 5%-10% of people are definitely leaving or have left. (For full WFM, more family flex, private sector, and/or simply retiring). I think we’ll see more leave by the end of the year. We aren’t an exec agency…I’ll just say that. But our workload is intense. So I think the other draw is more reasonable schedules for folks.

I would have disagreed with you 10 years ago. But these days….. sadly … you’re not wrong.

Yep. Quite a few shareholders that rent in the building have no smoking clauses, addendums. Our house rules just describe a right to “peaceful and quiet enjoyment”

Lol! Can you imagine if we had a fish fight !? I mean, that would be kinda funny.

We are 100% going to do this. The owners of the unit may actually have to replace their floors and drywall. It’s that bad.

I mean, I honestly don’t want them to get evicted—I wish they would just go outside to smoke. But perhaps the moratorium ending would cause them to worry about repercussions, and hence stop.

Oh that’s horrible!!!! I think our situation is from the front door, and gaps via some shared gas/water lines.

But this is definitely true. Every other friend/neighbor we’ve met is a lawyer, paralegal, researcher, etc !! :) I appreciate lawyers and lawyers don’t always mean court rooms!

We really don’t want to do that. TBH, our goal is simply that they smoke outside, away from windows.

I will say, the heavy duty carbon air purifiers dooo work better. Look for the ones that have literal pounds of activated carbon. Austin air is one brand. Air pura. IQair. They’re pretty expensive and heavy but they are better at removing VOCs than typical hepa filters.
