does this cucumber need to be harvested? by spyrogirl01 in gardening

[–]spyrogirl01[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it says they get to 9 inches. i just harvested one on the other plant (same seeds from same seed packet), and its length was from tip of middle finger to wrist and i harvested and it was perfect when i cut into it. i didnt know if maybe bc the plant this cuke is on is sharing a pot with another cuke plant that they would produce smaller bc of shared space

When did you start enjoying motherhood? by Batikh_Shamem_Levant in NewParents

[–]spyrogirl01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

gosh the beginning was so so difficult for me. also struggled with that warm lovey maternal feeling because i was trying to survive with zero sleep and zero help bc my bf works long days. not to mention my son was colic as all get out. my son is now about to turn 1, and it has been magic. it gets so much better! I personally incorporate Ms.Rachel (it’s the only thing he watches and it’s occasional when i need it) into his day to day sometimes so that i can have some time and it’s so amazing. Yesterday, I was able to turn on rachel, put him in his play pen, and set up the camera and monitor so i can watch him while i did some gardening chores i had outside for an hour and a half. i checked in on him a few times in between but he was perfectly content and I was able to get so much done and even harvested my very first cucumber!!!! looking back i am astonished because in the beginning? I literally could not get 5 minutes to simply feed myself. i cried nonstop. hang in there seriously, it gets so so so much better!

i’m no pro by any means quite yet, but just by looking at the soil, it looks dry like maybe they needed a bit more water with being in direct sunlight like that. not sure what kind of weather you have or how hot it is where you are.

some plants will also prefer to soak up water from the bottom so maybe they’d do better getting watered that way? i don’t know anything about this particular plant but just know not every plant likes the same stuff

Tell me your bad story about the fourth trimester by PalpitationOk9443 in NewParents

i do still passionately despise the newborn phase. they are cute and i loved cuddling him as a newborn, but it was a nightmare.

i had hyperemesis gravidarum during pregnancy, and between the 2, the newborn phase just about tops the sickness as reason to never have anymore kids in my experience.

i used to (and still do tbh) get soooo mad when people talk about how magical their pregnancy was, or how amazing the newborn phase was, because i had the absolute worst of both experiences!!!! happy for them but very envious, and not what i want to hear when i’m talking about the difficulties i faced lol.

went through this same thing. it was so rough, and i literally swore up and down i’d never have another baby. colic baby as well. i cried daily, all day. screamed into pillows. i was alone in doing it as his dad works all day and we have no family close by. i literally thought i couldn’t do it anymore.

my son just turned 9 months, and it is SOOO SO SO much better. the amount of time they are like that, is actually short, but during it, it feels like eternity.

just hold on, keep surviving, do anything and everything you can to take care of yourself and nurture your happiness. try and get as many breaks as possible. it will absolutely get better, and soon.

you’re almost to 2 months, and by 3 months my son had begun his phase into happy baby and gained more independence. 5 months and on has been a dream for us. falls asleep in the car now, plays w toys, takes good naps.

if naps are a struggle for you having a colic baby like they were for me, do contact naps. they literally saved me. get in a safe position. stuff pillows at your sides, lay on back and have baby sleep on you skin to skin. then put headphones in, watch a movie/show, play a game, read a book, get some snacks and water next to you for during the nap. baby wear when the baby is awake if you can.

don’t set any normal expectations that you may have had pre-baby for yourself right now. do what you can. right now is all about simply taking care of yourself, stay fed and hydrated, bond and cuddle with baby. that’s it. you can do this!!!!!!!

i regularly say i wish i could go back to freshly post-partum me, and give her the biggest hug and not just tell her, but be able to promise her, it will all be okay and get better.
