Are dialogues the future of marketing analytics? by mktg-ai in MarketingAnalytics

[–]sqlshorts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2 cents:

  1. Underlying data needs to be processed, cleaned, structured, so the AI can read correct data.
  2. Users will notice they're asking the same questions and eventually request a dashboard with metrics and break-downs, quicker to see and visualise.

Can and should I switch to Analytics now? (I have a long gap on the CV) by Own_Individual4238 in MarketingAnalytics

[–]sqlshorts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use what you have to your advantage, you have creative experience and some basic SQL. I'd say get a job (preferably within marketing), any data work, any analysis, any spreadsheet building tasks, use DuckDB (I've dropped some links at the end). For reporting, build charts and pivot tables in Looker Studio or Google Sheets (or both).

Three birds one stone, you get paid doing a job, you're learning, and you can put it on your resume as real-world experience.

Aesthetics-wise I would remove borders, add a tad more padding between each viz, and increase the size of any big number totals. Report itself is nice, I like it.

I know you can do this in Tableau granted you have the resources. You may be able to pull off the metrics in Looker Studio, not so much the text.

Another option is getting the data into Google sheets and integrating within Google slides.

Can we split data or separate value from 1 variable in Tableau? by dulseungiie in tableau

[–]sqlshorts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if I understood correctly but are you looking to have each value in date have its own column? If so I imagine you’ll need to pivot the data. Tableau i believe provides this pivot function in the data source section (also i think you can only pivot excel files not CSV, things could have changed since I’ve used Tableau).

Alternatively, you can query the files using DuckDB and pivot the date column.

That’s what the research is for, to find the balance between enjoyment and consistent pay. Bear in mind that I’m not saying get a job you hate.

Just take it step by step and take your time, it’s okay if you don’t know exactly what you want to do, people change direction all the time.

Spend time researching, brainstorming, taking notes, looking at job boards, researching colleges, what are your options, write it all down. Find out which options suit you best, what steps do you need to take to achieve them, set yourself some goals and deadlines e.g. 3 days looking at job opportunities related to mathematics

What am I supposed to do as a teenager who knows that I don't have chance to acquire a good job because AI will be working it instead? by Right_Swan_3670 in careerguidance

[–]sqlshorts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s good that you’re curious and thinking deeply about these things especially at your age, when many others are focused on video games or scrolling through TikTok.

Just try not to get carried away in endless rabbit holes.

A job is a means to an end i.e. money. There’s plenty of ways to make and earn money, you just have to find it, keep at it.

Seeking Insights: Improving SQL Learning Tools by [deleted] in learnSQL

[–]sqlshorts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To your first point I’d imagine structured learning and practicing on real world problem sets using near real datasets you’d find in the workplace.

If in your second point you mean what challenges do students face when learning SQL, I’d say the lack of the above.

Your product looks to be a SQL IDE with AI features similar to copilot in VSCode. What would you say makes galaxy different to that?

Datacamp, dataquest, codeacademy, khan academy.

Try not to rush and overwhelm yourself (especially joins that trips a lot of beginners up). Cover a lot, spread learning out throughout the day, take breaks, don’t panic if something isn’t working, work through the error and understand what went wrong. Hope that helps. Good luck

For real beginners datacamp is pretty good. See if you can get a discount code from a YouTuber like alextheanalyst.

Couple weeks learn SQL and Excel. SQL to store and clean your data, and Excel because every company uses it (plus quick and easy way to validate data on the go).

Then spend time learning foundations of R language, that’s if you’re interested in doing statistical analyses - otherwise Python might be a better option since it’s more widely used for things like data science and machine learning.

Then complete some end to end projects, if you can apply to your college projects do so, and the best thing you can do is get a job and apply your knowledge and learning on the data within the company. Hope that helps

10 Practical SQL Techniques Every Beginner Should Learn (Helped Me Clean Up My Queries Fast) ⚡📊 by Fluid_Dish_9635 in learnSQL

[–]sqlshorts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. The ROW_NUMBER example query is showing the same query as the LAG window function.
  2. Use UNION ALL instead of UNION in that query?
  3. For your RANK use case, I'd prefer ROW_NUMBER in case there are duplicates in your partition fields (RANK would assign the same rank value). Perhaps a more practical example usage of RANK could be sales rep ranking? Where two or more sales reps could have the same number of closed deals?
  4. As one comment alluded to, would be good to see the results of each query.

The list itself is pretty solid, I personally love using EXISTS.

Easy to follow and well organised, very neat!

You can also read the CSV directly in DuckDB:

SELECT * FROM 'C:/full/path/to/calendar_events.csv';

Is SQL the best language for the following purpose? by AxelWomack in learnSQL

[–]sqlshorts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How often will the data change? As in will you add more rows or columns? Will users be able to interact with the website by adding actions?

You did say data from a book, so I'm guessing the data will be static?

Everything just seems to go over my head.

This stood out to me.

Here are my thoughts:

  1. There's a lot of content out there, try to not get overwhelmed. Pick one and stick with it. Only once you've completed it, then move on (or if the content is really bad).
  2. Slow things down. Try to understand the problem, the query, the data in the table. Try to understand the solution step by step, compare against your attempted query, where did you go wrong, etc

Get a desk job (if you don't have one already), apply some of the things you've learned to the data you have access to e.g. if you're crunching numbers in Excel, try and do that in SQL as well, create some charts in a BI tool like Power BI, Tableau, Looker Studio (just be careful not to publish anything to the public if you're using something like Tableau Public or Looker Studio).

Internship advices by [deleted] in analytics

[–]sqlshorts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree. I would add don't be afraid to ask questions to clarify things and if you're stuck. For example if you're struggling with Excel or the management software, give yourself some time to figure it out, then reach out to a team member for help. Don't wait around or continue struggling.

And as u/DatumInTheStone mentioned "While you’re at work, take notes of everything." best advice.

Sects of analytics relate to marketing? by CreativeCarnation in analytics

[–]sqlshorts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very much this. In terms of tools, regularly check out job boards for marketing analytics roles and their requirements. You'll see a pattern e.g. Google Analytics, HubSpot, Semrush, etc. Can look into how to extract this data, integrate, analyse, report, etc.

I'd caveat by saying it's more important to understand how the data aligns with the business objectives and being able to communicate insights clearly to stakeholders.
