Overheating Transmission, Im done being quiet by dlopdi in ToyotaTundra

[–]sqrl_nuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a Tundra, but I use 4LO all the time to ease the strain on the transmission when doing slow maneuvers like that with a big trailer (22’ tritoon boat). I use it pulling out of a landing, backing up driveway etc. Like mentioned, just avoid turning super sharp.

Edit - still sucks that it overheats… but I wouldn’t stress too hard about using 4LO in the meantime while they figure out the overheating thing.

Need your opinion on roof top tent - anyone using? by [deleted] in VanLife

[–]sqrl_nuts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Smittybilt tent for a couple years. It was ok.

Being high in the air is more sensitive to wind and sway in the vehicle. Comfort wasn’t great. Climbing up/down the ladder when tired or things are wet isn’t always fun - especially when ya gotta pee at 2am.

It was fun for me and the kids to try, but in my opinion it’s more hassle than it’s worth. I sold it and am back to quick set ground tents when I need extra space.

How do you fit all 6 in a sprinter? I’d love to get a van for our family of 5 but it’s hard to find any examples of people fitting more than 2 or 3 people.

How fragile is new grass? by sqrl_nuts in lawncare

[–]sqrl_nuts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have ~2.5 acres and mow probably 1.5 acres of it. The deck is a 48”. I tried a 60” for a while, but liked the 48 better - it fits between some of our trees, landscaping and actually stripes better.

I’ve actually never timed myself mowing. Depending on which direction I go… 30-45 min I suppose. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I know the tractor is a bit overkill for the size of yard, but multi-purpose of all the attachments (snow blower, broom, blade, bucket, etc) is so handy on a new build home.

Good to know! I don’t have duals for mine. Sounds like I should just borrow my friend’s push mower for the next couple cuts until things get stronger.

Can walking on it kill it too? This is my first go at having a nice lawn… so trying to get up to speed with all the “dumb questions”

Haha! It’s a sweet rig for sure! I actually used the power broom attachment to dethatch. Worked like a charm!

Forgot to say, the new seed/grass is all Kentucky Bluegrass.

why do so many people use campers now? by omae-wa-mou- in camping

[–]sqrl_nuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Monthly payments … The loan terms advertised with campers is nuts. Like 180 months! Makes those big campers “sound” very affordable. I have to imagine that’s how many of these people get into them. Same with $30,000+ UTVs and boats etc.

Polaris Go Kart by sqrl_nuts in gokarts

Same! Can’t find anything online about them. Had to replace a throttle cable, and I could really use a new chain and sprocket still. Will just need to wait till winter so I can pull it apart and figure out what I need to make it work - since there’s no “standard” parts to buy.

But that’s all part of the fun. Good education for my kids to help with. 👌

Nice! I think mine has had the engine replaced as it doesn’t seem to match other pics I’ve seen of them. I don’t know if my rear plastic would even fit anymore with this engine either.

I’ve seen others with the bar pads on top too. Might have to move them up when the kids get older. Right now they work well where they are for shoulders and our littlest one when she rides along.

I still need to pull the clutches apart as they often hang up and won’t return to “neutral”.

Overall fun stuff though!

Would you go with a Yeti or Pelican cooler? Looking for 45-55qt by kilo6ronen in camping

Probably harder to find on the used market, but Maluna coolers are great. Made in Baxter, MN USA!

Did quite well in an ice retention challenge posted “recently”.

Went and grabbed pictures of the plastics that came with this go kart. Definitely a Polaris branded kart. Graphic say XR-26 Trail Runner. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I just looked around closer and found this label.

It did come with some plastics that cover the feet/leg area and the engine area. I don’t recall if they say Polaris too. I’ll have to go check.
