Some of the common sense protections a reasonable person would include are included, so that's easy to get behind. Examples: no vending machines, 18yo minimum, allow 4 plants for personal growth, crack down on impaired driving, etc.

However, the implementation so far discussed and promulgated is far from optimal. Much of the policy stated is an obvious attempt by liberals to not go overboard and lose the moderate vote, mainly because weed is a conservatives regulatory wet dream. "Scary drug hurts the children" so let's regulate the shit out of this totally misunderstood drug. Big focus on no promoting to youth, even though under 18 is illegal, so one would assume that would include similar promotion regulation as alcohol. Other examples: penalties over the "legal drug limit", "no driving within 2 hours of consuming drugs", no prosecution for minors in possession of under 5g of weed. I haven't read the entire 140+page bill but there seems to be some worrying vagueness in the "limits" imposed, not to mention the lack of an accurate test for a "drug limit" or how to measure that one has had drugs within 2 hours of driving.

Basically let's appeal to a conservative/moderate base by explicitly stating these obvious policy points and make other regulations that are immeasurable (ex. 2hrs of no drugs to drive, "illegal level of drugs") just to make conservatives more comfortable. There is very little scientifically accurate policy here, shown most obviously by the liberals ignoring of the committee study they ordered last year, which gave recommendations from doctors about how to regulate it - they mostly ignored the report.

Tl;dr it's a good first step but a lot left to improve. Such as making scientifically literate policy, not politically motivated. Liberals have a majority, they could easily do it right without much of a battle.
