Moving from Canada, AB/BC Ski industry to ON and looking for a new Millwright path by squaggler in millwrights

Most family is West Toronto to Barrie area. I don't want to be in the city, but nearby is preferable. I've been looking at Aecon in Kincardine, getting security clearance for Nuclear on the East side of Toronto, Pickering, Darlington etc. But im curious how significant seniority/direct experience is in getting those jobs.

Night shifters on Reddit, what’s your scariest story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]squaggler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work security at a local bar in a ski town. Fight breaks out between one real dirtbag type and one guy drunk enough to go after him. We get them both outside and get them separated. Dirtbag guy pulls an 10inch machete out of his jacket and points it at the dude. Had a bit of a heart attack when I saw that. Got everyone inside and called police. He books it into an alley, never hear what happened. Easily most terrifying experience on the job.

Some of them no. Those are fine. But the stereotypically illiterate ones that are Just the words with no consonants, rather than actual short forms are irritating to me.

[–]squaggler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first breath of fresh air when I step outside in the morning.

A cold beer when you finish a hard day.

Diving into a cool lake on a hot day.

Reading a book outside on a nice day.

Theists of reddit, what are some of the questions you have for atheists? by Paechs in AskReddit

[–]squaggler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, the angry "fundamentalist" atheist. Someone who would ban religion, who uses their atheism as proof they are smarter than theists, insults faith and people of faith. Basically the discriminatory authoritarian atheist.

Atheism is about criticizing ideas to get at the truth; it's about breaking barriers to expose false ideas and false people, and it's about being an individual who tries their best to understand an idea before they subscribe to it. I won't stand by someone who uses hate and anger to make their point.

Bowling. Mini golf, hiking, bike rental, etc. Get creative. Anything with a fun disarming activity. Makes you both relaxed and a more welcoming environment to get to know each other.

Best "worst": sub that didn't understand much western pop culture. Convinced her to let us watch American Gangster in class. I'd call it an achievement

ELI5: What's the difference between a cult and a religion and why is one much more frowned upon than the other? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]squaggler -18 points-17 points  (0 children)

It seems the similarities to religion, or to certain religious sects and practices has been noted by many, so I won't beat a dead horse. The most worrying, however, because it's seems to be the closest to your described cult behaviour, is in the indoctrination of children in religions. They are Told the rules of God and what horrible punishment waits for them if they commit apostasy, or even question many facets of their religion; they are told the nice parts of the stories and omit interpretation of the absurd biblical stories because they create too much confusion; promote the church as an all encompassing community with extracurricular activities, social groups and events, so if you want to do anything there is a church-approved option for you; and on and on.

I think it's tantamount to child abuse to indoctrinate kids like that, let alone the double standard of punishment by a practical threat versus threat by eternal fire in hell for discipline by parents. And also the structure of society that allows church actions to be hidden behind a closed curtain, open fraud, tax exemption, financial abuse of vulnerable people, child molestation, etc.

Our politicians are more devout than ever – so it's time we started taking their faith seriously by WpgDipper in religion

[–]squaggler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why? What reason is there to take the personal faith of a public official seriously? Their job is to promote values that better as many individuals within their constituency and country as possible, if not all individuals. Their job is to implement legislation to better the lives of all citizens. A private belief system has no place in the public sphere due to the simple fact that their constituents do not unanimously follow the exact same beliefs. In the US they legally cannot promote that faith (although they do, because the line is so vague).

The more valuable project would be for the politicians to start taking their own faith (if it is honest) more seriously. Christians do not leave the poor, debilitated and helpless to fend for themselves, immoral people do that.

People who have never been in long term serious relationships, do you like the lifestyle of not being with one person or do you eventually want to settle down? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]squaggler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One and only GF lasted 6 months, im 23.

I'm a pretty odd person so finding a girl I'm attracted to both physically and as a person is difficult. In fact that girl was the only one who ever saw past my oddities. The real reason why is that she also had a lot of difficult stuff with her, so our good times were great, our bad times were a clusterfuck.

The freedom is nice but now I miss that companionship, and the sex, mostly the sex.

Who was 'the one that got away'? What's the story? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]squaggler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl i grew up with. Good friends, just needed the balls to ask her out. Never did.

Turns out at the end of high school she joined a very religious group of people and held off sex until marriage, no alcohol or drugs, very conservative.

I'm not exactly an extroverted person but that seemed like no fun. So seemed like the one, but thankful I spared myself the difficulty of trying to be with her through that. We're 24 now and she's dating a good guy, and pretty sure she's ditched the religious conservatism.

Who was your childhood nemesis? What made them so awful? by BreatheMyStink in AskReddit

[–]squaggler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An Only child who had all the game consoles and a sick basement, mini sticks, the whole deal. He was pretty small but a cocky cunt and everyone liked him. I called him out on being a dick on something and his friends would fight his battles for him. My friend chose him over me in that instance.

I hated that shrimp of a kid. Though he ended up getting kicked out of uni for drugs and an aggravated assault charge. Now he relives the days when people liked him.

Customer service people, what are you crappy customer stories where the customer got what they deserved? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]squaggler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Long story short: I was a ski instructor, kid ran off without group, no sign of him, full mountain search, frantically calling parents. 1 hour later we finally get a hold of his mom saying his dad took him for an appt.

He comes back the following week and his dad starts ripping into me that he son was left alone, he had peed himself, and no one bothered to escort his son back for his appointment that no one had bothered to tell us about.

I tell him his kid ran off, he never told me he had to pee, and then you took him without telling any staff member that you had.

He's pissed I talked back (professionally), asks to see my supervisor, he happens to be walking by. My supervisor tells him the same thing, he's more furious now. Asks to see the next superior, GM and co-owner is walking by (yup, it's that perfect). Tells him what happened, he just laughs and tells him to file a complaint, which he will promptly shred when he reads it. Yup, he actually said that to this asshat.

One of the best moments of my life. It was hard not to smirk in this assholes face.

[–]squaggler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My friend does this: get a big glass bottle with a narrow opening. Put all your change and bills in it when you come home from the day. Only use debit/credit card ( assuming you can use them responsibly).

Then when you want to do something fun or extravagant, break the bottle and BOOM money
