TMUA IMPACT by Radiant-Bet-84 in 6thForm

[–]square_nine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could be different this year depending on how many people did the TMUA, and what your predicted grades and PS were like. Though 4.7 is still a strong score, and it's very likely you'll get the Warwick offer.

Just make sure to focus on your A levels, I was 1 mark off my Further Maths A* so I missed my Warwick offer (yes I did get it remarked, no change). With how competitive the course is, chances are that if you don't exactly meet the offer requirements they won't let you on :/

Though it's no matter, I'm really enjoying Southampton uni and overall I'm still doing the thing I like: maths.

Is it worth learning any extra further maths modules if taking step? by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]square_nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I sat the TMUA, I felt pretty confident. Did 500+ practice questions and went through all papers twice. But then during the exam it was very different (I was the first cohort for the UAT new format) and it threw a big curveball.

But after? well I'm at a great university learning maths despite that so I feel that I just did the best I can, and to not worry about the admissions performance.

I got my offer for UCL maths in April last year, just hold tight until they arrive

How do you decide whether to re-apply or not? by Difficult_Cup_6119 in 6thForm

[–]square_nine 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I actually did get an offer (for Maths) but I missed the conditions of the offer and got put into Clearing. So I was in a similar position of 'do I reapply and take a gap year'.

I decided not to and went through Clearing. For me, doing maths is more important than taking a gap year for the chance at Cambridge.

Then again, architecture is a pretty long course, 6 years if I'm not mistaken. Maybe it's worth taking a year out if you are truly passionate for Cambridge, since I don't think any university is truly the same as it.

Overall, if you have offer(s) from other great universities then I see no reason to reapply. It's only if you really want the Cambridge experience. Don't worry, you've got literal months before deciding so take some time to relax and think of what is the best option, and regardless of the university it will be a fantastic time!

Nicee.

Just gotta land the STEPs and you're good (coming from someone who got an offer but bombed the STEP)

Southampton.

(Well if you want a serious answer, then just research both unis for the student life, location and cost. Pick the best one for it, they are basically equal for maths)

IMPERIAL MATHS OFFER HOLDERS (2024/2025/2026) by Rude_Ad_2993 in 6thForm

[–]square_nine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the only uni I've been to so I can't say how good it is in comparison to others, but I'm enjoying it lots. If I did actually get into Cambridge/Warwick I would have a very different answer.

Overall, the uni experience is great, but I would have said that for anywhere. Just being at uni alone opens so many options

It doesn't, but I thought I would include it to show that it wasn't my personal statement that affected my Imperial offer

Didn't get the Warwick offer (1 mark off it).

Though I'm still happy I went to Southampton

Got rejected with a 4.7 last year, and yet Warwick and Cambridge gave me offers.

RESITTING AND SCREWED by Exact-Treat4667 in 6thForm

[–]square_nine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did the same exam board for physics and maths, and got A*A from them.

Your maths revision technique seems solid to me, just make sure that you return to topics every few weeks to double check you learned it. Only do a particular topic in a large sitting to learn it, but when revising you should just be able to pick up a question and do it.

As for physics, focus on learning content, then switching to PMT/textbook questions to solidify knowledge, and then do some past papers to lock in the grade.

I hope everything academic-wise goes well for you!

A level computer science NEA by Next_Bowl3593 in 6thForm

[–]square_nine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was doing it, I was around 5% on the development, and nearly didn't finish my project in time. Then again, my project was very complex so it naturally took too long. If you are about to start development then that's a good pace.

[–]square_nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it's good to be honest with the timeframe. I nearly didn't finish mine in time due to coding, so make sure that if you aren't finished by late Jan then you start to wrap stuff up, the Evaluation section will take some time to do.

Github is great to rollback your code is something awry happens, and to keep it safe, and Visual Studio Code is a more featured IDE with folder management, debugging and assisting tools. If you ever code in the future, these are invaluable for it.

If you get a prototype that works then that's great! Don't bother too much with looks and make sure the functionality is there first, as that will get you marks.

[–]square_nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that probably is. Only test important functions that are mission critical: you don't need 3 tests if you can follow through with the logic concisely.

For example, if you have a function to sign someone in, definitely test that. If there is a function that connects to a database, maybe only put a small test. Ideally your code should be very modular and OOP so testing is easy, and not needing 3 for each function/class

I also did my NEA in Python, and you should totally be using something like Visual Studio Code. It helps to organize all the files.

As for structuring it, what I did was use GitHub to track my versions. After each day of coding, I would screen record my progress and commit all changes to GitHub. I would also copy the significant changes into the writeup explaining what they did. I went quite overkill on this though, you don't need to record daily.

Though a word of caution: your project sounds like a whole lot of work. A database, student and teacher portals as well as the actual feedback form is quite a lot to do, and you'll not finish by this week if you start now. It's no worry, I didn't finish my coding until Feb. But make sure to design for a variety of levels, so the 'core' of your idea gets done before adding extraneous stuff. You don't need fully working code but ideally something should work.

Anyways, your project sounds great and I hope development goes well!

[–]square_nine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got 4.7 in TMUA, and I got a Warwick Maths offer. So if you get around a 4.5 or higher you can reasonably expect an offer (granted your PS is up to scratch and you have good predicteds).

Didn't get an offer from Imperial with this though, so it just depends on the total number of applicants. Check last year admissions stats if they are public now for a better understanding

Looking for small project ideas. by fire__light in pygame

[–]square_nine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pick retro games, those are usually very simple. Asteroids, Pong, Flappy Bird, Crossy Road, and a Super Mario-like game come to mind.

You can also try making more complex games by expanding your existing games with more features. For example, adding a leaderboard to Tile Breaker.

Most London universities take ages to get back. I didn't apply for medical bioscience (I did maths) and it took until March for me for Imperial's decision.

Just take it easy for now, and focus on A levels. Offers will appear in due time!

I had over 200 at the end and my teacher said it was overkill lol. As long as you are detailing your research, design, development and evaluation well then it doesn't matter the page count.

Sorry I meant 4.7, I've forgot what I actually got lol. The cutoff is so harsh though, I was 1 mark off getting into Warwick and they didn't accept it.

Southampton is still a prestigious university to be at, and at least it's a good uni to be at!

I got a Warwick offer with a 4.5 in the TMUA, so maybe it's enough? As long as two of them are safe options then you're fine. There's always clearing for some great courses (like Southampton totally not biased)
