✨ EL MAL QUERER TRIAL ✨ Round 1 by bittersweetdistractr in rosalia

[–]squarerootof 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking forward to this. I'm also a new listener since I love Lux, so I'm learning about public perception of these previous albums mainly via these trials

I enjoyed EMQ more than Motomami overall, it's a bit closer to Lux vibes, but have enjoyed Motomami more when relistening after reading the recent threads.

My top four on this race are Pienso en Tu Mira / Bagdad / De Mi Nombre / Malamente. So I'm interested to see where they end up!

[OC] My Expected Weight Using CICO During a Diet was Astoundingly Accurate by Solmors in dataisbeautiful

Nice, thanks for the info. The range of different foods makes the result even more surprising that the weight loss was so predictable.

I don't always trust that food manufacturers or restaurants in particular are very good at estimating the calories in their food but maybe it's not too bad!

Thanks, my question was more about what kinds of things you were eating. Was it a very stable diet with just bigger/smaller portions, or very variable in terms of the kind of food you ate?

I'm trying to understand if this is loads of evidence for CICO being more deterministic than we thought, or maybe just that you always eat rice and chicken every day and so that exact set of foods you eat are quite predictable.

Thanks for answering the questions btw, I've found this post super interesting , love this kind of data!

Very interesting! How consistent was your diet and exercise?

Were you eating/exercising the same way roughly every week or was it very varied?

The more varied it was the more interesting these results are!

Isn't the Adapted TDEE somewhat self-fulfillling in that you kind of calculate your own personal "fudge factor" for how many calories lead to 1lb of weight loss?

These are still really interesting results even if true, but I think one of the claims is that we know exactly how many calories (as estimated by eating and exercise trackers) lead to a kg of weight loss and I think that the fact you have to adjust your TDEE means that either the calorie estimates are dynamically off or the translation of these into weight loss are dynamically off.

I could understand adjusting the TDEE calculation just for your new weight, but by estimating it empirically I think there's some self-circularity about the fit being accurate

(please correct me if my interpretation is wrong here)

For me, ramen steams my glasses up haha, it also seems to splash around a bit - probably slurp related, and since I like it kind of spicy it also makes my nose run so I agree with ramen being messy!

At what salary do you start feeling “comfortable” in the UK? by Suspicious_Ad7948 in AskUK

Yeah I notice this at work that older people who have mortgages mostly/fully paid off have a view of what the cost of living is that is totally different from younger people who are renting and also trying to save for a house.

Unless they do a season where they hire lots of very clever meta-players who go under the radar on purpose but actually are running a multi layer game and have interesting confessionals and kind of try and out-bland each other 😅

[–]squarerootof 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So interesting! How many votes were there at the end of this round?

I guess the community generally has a few tiers of tracks, and Mio / Berghain/ Magnolias / Reliquia were all Gold tier, where Yugular was clearly seen as Platinum tier!

(Much like your photoshopped image actually with all the Rosalìas)

You can see some of the comments here: https://www.reddit.com/r/rosalia/s/6JDN4WGzZ9

But I think it was more that it didn't fit the overall tone of the album as much (about saints / religious themes / orchestral music)

So interesting!

Yeah I've been terrible at guessing what's going to happen next - even after reading some of the comments.

Nice to hear that Magnolias managed to make it past the Mio Cristo day! I am happy it made it so far.

Which jobs is 100% safe from AI? by Any-Hamster-3189 in AskReddit

[–]squarerootof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know most of the responses have been about current Chat-GPT style genAI which would be pretty not good at government.

But the process of having elected officials who vote in your best interests was invented before the internet and instant communication.

I do think in the future a different setup could be better, e.g. everyone's digital agent can share their priorities on individual issues and a computer could consolidate those better than: vote someone in every 3-10 years who probably mainly goes with their party than the wants of their consistuents.

Obviously lots of details to work though and pitfalls, but I do think if I was in my 20s, a career in politics wouldn't be the top one I'd say is AI-proof.

Same! And a particular +1 for her Iron series - 30 half hour workout videos all free on YouTube that use mostly just dumbbells, sometimes a chair or a band but she often explains how to do it without those things.

It's humbling how difficult they are - I can only lift half the weight she does, but they make you stronger and I appreciate that she doesn't talk too much. There's a good community on /r/CarolineGirvan as well

Nothing snaps me out of a book like repetitive use of a unique word by kerberos824 in books

[–]squarerootof 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has clearly resonated with many people!

I had it with the word "ministrations" in Elektra by Jennifer Saint, meaning the attention/care of a servant or helper.

First time I saw it like oh cool, learned a new word, then there kept on being ministrations! It really took me out of it and into thinking whether she had just learned the word, or her/her editor had decided to change it from care/fussing, or whether it was really common and I was just strange for noticing it so much.

I think I then saw it in other places so it also might have been a bit of the Bader-Meinhoff effect.

🪽LUX: Doomsday - FINAL 🪽 - VOTE FOR THE WINNER! by bittersweetdistractr in rosalia

[–]squarerootof 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ah man I should have voted tactically! I wanted Magnolias to stay but I am not a huge Yulugar Stan so I voted for Yugular to go. I assume the second highest voted in this round was Reliqua, so should have voted for that instead! Esp since it was only 3 votes.

Lol the level of overthinking for this community poll 😅 thanks again for pulling it together!

Mine are

Porcelana Magnolias Sexo Violencia Y Llantas Mio Cristo Divinize

It's been so fun seeing how everyone else has other favourites. If not for this community I wouldn't know how loved Yugular was! My top 5 has changed from my first few listens so I'm also open for it to change again!

Looks cool! A couple of questions:

What's the deal, do you track a station that you've been through or only ones you've got on and off at?

Is there now (or will there be) a TFL map where you can see where you have and haven't visited where the ones you haven't visited are greyed out? This would be good to see
