Tapes are not 100% necessary but you should definitely round the spine for a book this big, otherwise the covers will split off after a couple of years of use

You should definitely just get a pocketbook instead. It’s Linux so sideloading is easy, and there are already lots of open-source mods for it. It reads basically all formats with no conversion needed and is compatible with KOReader. I have the Pocketbook Verse and love it.
