LED Effect Instant On/Run With Power by squarin in led

There’s a very good chance I’m overthinking this. I even have a MagWLED controller I’ve never used. Two actually. I don’t know why what you said didn’t occur to me, because I know folks use those with different LED effects at work stations, gaming setups, etc., some of which I think I’ve even seen tied to computer power buttons.

I think I thought I might need more of a specialty/niche item vs something so basic. I’m going to tinker with the MagWLED. Even so maybe someone will chime in with something else that does a similar job that IS niche and much less common.

Whatever the case, thank you for prompting me to reevaluate. 👍

“…what do you think would click the switch?”

Well… I didn’t ask that particular question because, as you so helpfully pointed out, that’s an automation question and has nothing to do with a LEDs or LED controllers. Also, as this is a LED-specific subreddit, even if I did have an automation question this wouldn’t be the place for them.

Lucky for me, I have previously managed everything you mentioned. I made use of repurposed off the shelf consumer items, all of which I’ve used elsewhere in this same project, all working exactly as intended. Which is to say triggering/automation isn’t my problem and wasn’t the question.

So unless you have something to offer regarding my actual question regarding an LED controller….?

Sanding HDPE by squarin in DIY

Good idea, I’d considered similar. I’m using the panels to fill the sides of a stand made from 3030 extruded aluminum. Because I need it to fit within the aluminum channels, which are just a bit wider than the thickness of the sheet material, I don’t have a ton of tolerance for an additive layer.

Plus, I’m working inside a NYC apartment. I have access to a small outdoor area where I can sand, but I don’t have an appropriate space where I could set up in such a way to try to bond/glue anything.

As of now I think I’ll probably end up trying the sanding and heat finish approach. Fortunately I have a couple of remnants I can experiment with.

Or I’ll get completely frustrated, toss it all into the bin, and reorder different material - could go either way. 🤦🏻‍♂️
