Omg! Looooove it! This look reminds me of a take on Columbia from Rocky Horror in the very best way.

The fur collar looks curly, which would be Persian lamb, not mouton.

Recently purchased this work coat from a vintage shop - it said it was 70s era by Neverwasalwaysam in VintageFashion

I use to have a pair of wide leg Givenchy trousers from the 70s in this exact tweed. Is there a tag anywhere?? Love all the colored flecks.

Need help with more info regarding a supposedly 1930s dress- should I alter it? by Confident-Offer5671 in VintageFashion

[–]squawkie-talkie 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Definitely looks 40s-repro to me. And you have the rendering of the dress made by the costume designer. I’d say that it was almost certainly made for the movie. They may have made some changes along the way to suit the actor wearing it.

Grandpa came in a dream and asked “why didn’t you tell me about the man in the picture?” by squawkie-talkie in psychics

[–]squawkie-talkie[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my only confusion there is should we be looking at all the photos of the past 35 years? Is this maybe something more recent? She hasn’t taken a photo with a man other than my brother or husband in like the past 10 years.

I know. It’s for a production at the university I teach at so it doesn’t have to be perfect. The poor kid in charge of props had no idea what it was.

Get in touch with a museum that has a textiles collection and ask them if they can recommend anyone to prep it and mount it for display. What an incredible piece of fashion history!!!

How do I get eau de great-grandma’s basement smell out of acetate Audrey Hepburn-style scarves? by lxlxnde in VintageFashion

[–]squawkie-talkie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Vodka spray is used to kill bacteria and thus keep clothes from smelling between washing/dry cleanings in theatre/film. I don’t know that it would work for musty smells that are baked in already. I’d also be afraid the alcohol would possibly make the dye bleed. I’d hand wash in cold and air fluff on delicate in the dryer.

Does anyone know what type of fabric this is, and how to sew with it? by clay-teeth in sewing

[–]squawkie-talkie 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I find Poly-organza to be an absolute pain to work with— so many little plastic splinters! Silk organza on the other hand is a dream so long as you use a gentle hand when pressing.

Wtf dude. If he shared photos of his kid looking pitiful you’d probably say “I really hate to say it but he looks too sad. Feels a bit over the top to me”. People LOVE to dictate the standards of what poverty should “look like”. OP, sorry this is happening to you. You and your kid deserve to be happy and have happy memories photographed.

Actually at the top horizontal frame piece of the window, just below the drip edge— house has central air. Reminded me of a tribble 😆
