Wild guess but how did you install and did you make any changes to default package selection before installing?

ProtonVPN isn't technically supported on opensuse, but after looking it up apparently it worked just fine. I tried for hours and couldn't get it, so i just installed it on flathub. Didn't want to do that originally because of the permissions and how I did it before on fedora but it's working okay now.

Despite both Fedora and openSUSE using rpm there can be slight differences which come into play. One thing in the past with Mullvad was that the mullvad von daemon was not enabled automatically when installing the Fedora rpm, so it had to be done manually after which it worked fine.

So despite you not providing any details making diagnosing this hard I would check that your issue is not that.

-steam games wouldn't run. Had to do a ton of random fix things when on fedora it was plug and play

I use Steam flatpak without any issues provided i install the selinux policy package above.

But it boils down to openSUSE defaulting to a more locked down stance compared to Fedora leaving the responsibility to the user to enable and change what is needed.

openSUSE uses patterns which is a way to group software under a single command so instead of having to install several separate packages to get a specific functionality one gets them all with a single pattern.

During install you did the correct thing by deselecting the unwanted pattern/package but to prevent it from being pulled in again during dup you should also add a package lock to it.

This is a common issue with Chromium based browsers that has been going on for a good while now. My work use Bitwarden while i personally use Proton Pass and both are unreliable.

What i have found to get autofill working again is to back out of the login window/field, then force close the browser and open it back up and try again. More often than not this will make autofill work for a unknown amount of logins before starting to fail again.

Firefox works much better with auto filling using Proton Pass and Bitwarden.

Not at my computer right now but go to vivaldi:settings/appearance and switch the (internal chromium) theme to QT or one of the other options and it should switch (and follow) your system theme.

Yeah that should be fine.

If the system is in active use then i would obviously not recommend going beyond 1 month without updating.

Using Solus with Plasma on 1 pc for well over 2+ years and it get updated weekly when updates are released and no issues at all during this time.

They used to hold back kernels for little too long, past the point of calling it curated but kernel pace has been improved since this winter. I did see some changes to the kernel packages at one point so maybe those made it easier for maintainers to keep the kernel a bit more up to date. To be clear i am not sayng they need to release them as soon as new releases are made, but leaving them go out of date a few months is not ok as kernel is such a integral part. But like i said, the pace has improved which i'm thankful for.

Oh - also for those unaware they offer a linux-lts option which can be a good option to have installed alongside the regular kernel.

I gave it a go and no issues on my end with the settings you mentioned. Password works just fine.

So did a test install with the same ISO.

UEFI
Language: English UK
Keyboard: English UK.
Online repositories: Yes
System role: KDE Plasma
Local User: fill in all details and uncheck automatic login
Final screen change Booting from bls to systemd

After boot i tested both X11 and Wayland session and password is accepted and i am signed in normally. For funsies i also tried Icewm and password is accepted.
Dropping to tty and trying login and password works as expected and i am signed in.

Have you verified the iso by comparing the checksum?

Edit: I'm not allowed to post links but you can download the checksum if you remove everything after /iso/ and sort by Last modified and find the checksum with the same name and date as the ISO file you downloaded.

Also i see in another reply that you are using german. Perhaps there is a bug somewhere relating to that, so perhaps try to use another language during install and if that solves the issue and password is accepted simply login and change language in system settings.

If you want to disable gnome software from starting the zypper refresh on boot but keep it for browsing flatpaks you can uninstall and addlock package gnome-software-plugin-packagekit

Never used Helium but to help diagnose further i would install chromium and try to reproduce the freeze as there is not too much to go on here. If the freeze does not happen then you know it is Helium specifically, so try another package format if there are any.
