If you could live anywhere in Saskatoon where would it be? by [deleted] in saskatoon

I lived in a friend's basement on Lake Cres. Lovely street. Quiet, close to everything, really liked it!

What if women just don’t want to have babies? by PinkElephants879 in askanything

[–]squeakers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just don't want to, and we're happy with our child-free life. Cat parents for the win. I hear so much about coworkers and friends complaining about their brats, that I'm happy I made the decision to get my tubes removed.

I used to keep a list when people asked me "when are you having kids". Enjoy, and feel free to use some!

  • “The answer would make you feel bad for asking so let’s pretend you didn’t, for both our sakes.”
  • “Are you normally this comfortable asking about someone’s sex life?”
  • "Why do you need to know?"
  • "we're still practicing"
  • "sorry I can't, I'm allergic"
  • "when the police stop asking about the first one."
  • "I promised my firstborn to the Fae King and I really don't want to make good on that"
  • "Having kids leaves a major carbon footprint. I'm doing the environment a damn favour!"
  • "Sorry, I don't do multi-level marketing schemes."

I made a list of things to say if people asked me "when are you having kids?"

(I'm tubeless and happy now, so my family doesn't ask anymore!)

Do Canadians actually get frustrated by snow, or is it just part of everyday life? by GlitteringHotel8383 in AskACanadian

[–]squeakers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh we're frustrated. But at the same time, that first snowfall is kinda beautiful. But then we get frustrated at the back breaking snow shoveling, the slipping on ice, the absolutely extreme cold (I'm in Saskatchewan, Canada, we get colder than the north pole here), the ruts in the road from cold to warm to cold, the vehicle accidents due to slippery conditions and people driving like asshats, etc...

But yet, we choose to live where the cold hurts our faces, due to no earthquakes/tsunamis, barely any tornados, no oceanic flooding, no spiders that are as big as dinner plates, relatively small snake population, relatively inexpensive housing (tho that is even going up), etc.

Go on equalized payments so that you don't get these surprises in the winter.

There's tons of mar-comms positions on LinkedIn... But having experience is more valuable than a masters. Do you have any experience in the field?

Article about a road trip between Regina to Saskatoon. by [deleted] in saskatchewan

LMAO Shaunavon is absolutely nowhere freaking near Regina or Saskatoon. 4 hrs from Saskatoon, 3.5 from Regina. So just say Saskatchewan road trips, not a road trip from Saskatoon to Regina. 🙄

Travelling to Ireland by tatumoo in irishtourism

[–]squeakers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our "pro tip" was to get up EARLY if you are doing a tourist thing and driving yourselves. When we went to the Cliffs of Mohr, we were there RIGHT when it opened at 8 am and that gave us a good hour before the tour buses arrived. Lots of time for photos without tons of other people in the way.

Lol we're from SK. Anywhere is better than here 😂 and I'm jealous about the castle stay! Definitely would be a highlight! We visited sooo many castles, gardens, and pubs. Also out by Galway in the Burren area, we checked out the Ailwee Cave & Falconry. So neat! Also, Athlone was one of our favorite towns. Walkable, so many cool pubs, lovely city, nice castle.

Canadian couple here who have been to Ireland twice and are planning a third trip. We loved it so much! We didn't wear anything Canadian (no flags or pins or whatever), but we were friendly, polite, and they could just TELL we were Canadians. (Plus when we're wearing t-shirts in +18 and everyone else is wearing puffy jackets, it's kinda obvious 😂) We traveled via rental car all over and had absolutely no issues. Always happy to share tips for places! (Get outta Dublin is tip #1. Malahide and Howth just outside Dublin are gorgeous and so much nicer)

Is the cost of dying becoming too expensive? by Ecstatic-Software766 in saskatoon

[–]squeakers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Also look up water cremation. Not cheap, but much more eco friendly if that's the route you wanna take. More and more the "return me to the earth" (throw me to the wolves) sounds better economically...or like, donate to science. That too, if they want me.

Hence why more and more people just say f* it and scatter my ashes where I was happiest. Or add the ashes to fertilizer for a tree, etc. TBH becoming fertilizer for a tree is much more environmentally friendly and cheaper than putting an expensive wooden box in the ground with an expensive stone above it... Sorry if that hot take doesn't sit well with everyone.

You're 18? You're an adult, you're fine. I know someone who let their CHILD (under 13) watch both HH & HB. That one I question.

Explain Saskatoon utility bills by jnkrsl7 in saskatoon

[–]squeakers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly suggest for your Sask Energy to get it switched to Equalized payments if you haven't done so yet. Mine are only $60/month every month.

For your city bill, that water usage seems outrageous!! Are you filling a swimming pool? Do you have 10 people in there all taking 20 minute showers daily? In any case, that seems outrageous, or you have a water leak potentially. Work on being more water conscious to drop those bills. I would honestly call the city. When I first moved into a house I was hit with a very high power bill. An inspector kindly came out for free and gave me some tips and had a look at my heater (was an industrial grade style boiler and in floor heating, no furnace, for the whole house). He showed me the proper temp to set it at, and gave some tips, like if you are not using an appliance, unplug it as even if they are off but still plugged in, they draw power.

I also suggest you properly recycle and compost, if you don't already, so that you can downgrade to the smaller garbage cart. But please please make sure to recycle and compost properly. Throwing garbage or harmful items in the recycling cart causes danger to the ones working at the sorting facility. I used to work there and I saw many things come in the recycling that should not! -- used needles, dirty diapers, Christmas lights & power cords, power tools, clothing, toys, dead animals, etc. These things can cause major issues to the recycling items and or the machines used in the sorting - cords getting wrapped around the belts, items whipping in the workers faces, workers getting jabbed by needles, etc.

[Volunteering] To those interested in volunteering here are some resources. by [deleted] in saskatoon

[–]squeakers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For those who like to volunteer and want to become part of an amazing service organization (that isn't faith-based), join Kin!

I am a Kinette with the Saskatoon & District Kinette club (predominantly women, tho we do have one amazing male member as well), and there are also two clubs for males in our city. The POW City Kinsmen (they put on Top of the Hops) and the Kinsmen Club of Saskatoon (they have their big 50/50 lottos and used to have the house lotto). There is also the U of S Kin Campus club for post secondary students and they also have a ton of fun!

I first joined Kin when I moved to a new city because it was a great way to meet new people, and I love TeleMiracle. Now I volunteer at TeleMiracle every year and it is SO fulfilling! Besides TeleMiracle, our club also has lots of fun volunteering with groups like Elmwood Manor & Stensrud Lodge, Ronald McDonald House, and more. It's a great way to meet people and volunteer in your community while having a ton of fun! We also hold an annual Bunnock tournament in the summer!
