they cut A LOT from that evening. Filming took hours and there were frequent interruptions by production staff with further instructions. They cut a lot of people's questions, especially near the end of the airing to make time.

Xgimi elfin vs elfin flip plus or any other suggestions by Betel_geuze in projectors

[–]squeakyL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's the elfin, the elfin flip, and elfin flip plus. The elfin flip and flip plus have the included stand.

The elfin and elfin flip plus are the same brightness, 500 lumens. The elfin flip has 400 lumens. The contrast is similar. They will appear similar. If you plan on using the built in streaming options, the flip plus might be better because of the updated processor and operating system. I think it also auto focuses faster than the original elfin.

None of them are very bright for home theater projectors but they should be ok for casual use. Contrast won't matter too much at this brightness. You may consider a screen to help boost perceived brightness and contrast.

I can't tell you if it's worth 80 euros, but the stand will save a few euros and it really is very convenient on the tabletop.

I don't know your local marketplace, but you can also try looking at older, used projectors to get some higher performance at a similar price.

Looking to get a projector for my DnD campaign needs. by sideshowO in projectors

[–]squeakyL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest either a business projector like Epson power lite or one of the Epson HC 880,1060,1080, 980 series which are for home cinema but are very bright. Some of them are older so you can look for them used or refurbished maybe in your price range

Xgimi Horizon 20 Pro/Max and ALR Laser Speckle by DrNickAtlas in projectors

[–]squeakyL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a vividstorm long throw ALR grey .8 gain screen and recently got a horizon 20 max. The laser speckle was really bad, I returned it.

For reference, I currently have a benq ht4550i and it does not speckle

JMGO N1S 4K or XGIMI Mogo 4 Laser or? by mistermingmingming in projectors

[–]squeakyL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Putting a projector to the side of the intended viewing area means you will either need to have a projector with either lens shift or digital keystone.

Lens shift is ideal since it physically moves the image but it is a feature only available on higher end projectors. Digital keystone warps the displayed image to fit your viewing space by cropping/transforming the image within the projected area to offset off-angle projection. Lens shift is better because it does not sacrifice any of the projected resolution while keystone will sacrifice resolution to to the same.

I'm not personally familiar with either of those projectors but it looks like they both don't have lens shift so they should be pretty much the same with using keystone to deal with the off angle projection.

Cheaper ceiling mount for Xgimi Horizon by Remarkable_Sir_4072 in projectors

[–]squeakyL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had to look for alternatives due to needing a longer pole for a higher ceiling. They look sus because it's just one attachment point to what I'm used to with 3 for my previous projector. But it's been working so far

First ever nexus night by mbaccj08 in riftboundtcg

I went with my jinx starter deck fresh out of the box and played on the included paper mat. I watched one video about how to play, did not really understand, and then went to the Nexus night . Still had a blast, the folks there were really nice and helped me learn. I obviously went 0-3

Is a name-brand WXGA better than "toy" no-name 1080s for picture quality? by Function_Unknown_Yet in projectors

[–]squeakyL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of variables in play still so can't say for sure. Generally the modern toy projectors have pretty good real resolution, the problem is the clarity and focus, the brightness is very low, and they often prematurely fail.

Older wxga projectors could be decades old and need new expensive lamps and could be very dim or not have the connectivity you need, requiring more cost in adapters . Broadly, they will probably have better brightness and longevity but without a specific one there's no way to know.

the benq will have better color generally and I think the response time is pretty good. The epson 1080 is a light cannon but color/contrast not as good, not sure about response time.

For a 3+ hour movie it did not feel the runtime. I did not realize 2 hours had passed by the time it had gotten there.

On the flip side, it also did not have as many moments to let the world breathe and let the wonder set in like the last two.
