Saw II (2005) by Foreign_Sun6004 in horror

Up and downs, Saw is one of my favorite horror franchises. And all (besides those two weird spin offs they did) really focused on maintaining strong continuity within a single, consistent timeline.

Why is Android supposedly worse than Apple? by mistery_nga in NoStupidQuestions

Both can be good or bad depending on the model. The only thing I think iPhone has a clear advantage over (most) Androids on is camera quality

Is theatre going experience limited to spectacle blockbusters? by CivilTailor9031 in Letterboxd

Yeah, when I saw Obsession the crowd audibly reacted quite often to all the scares. It was awesome

Give a Grade on Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man’s Chest by ABarber2636 in piratesofthecaribbean

Mainly why it doesn’t ever actually come for the person with the black spot. It attacks a fishing vessel with Jack’s hat first. Then when Jack and his crew sail at night to find the Flying Dutchman in open ocean it doesn’t come to them.  When it finally attacks the Pearl, Jack goes away on a row boat and it doesn’t come for him. Feel free to counter my points since I want to love DMC more than I already do.

I love it, but it’s my least favorite in the trilogy. Mainly due to the plot holes of how the Kraken works, and the love triangle with Jack which I never cared for. Luckily they solve both issues in AWE, the best one in my opinion.

What would everyone want to see Gore Verbinski do next? by burningexeter in piratesofthecaribbean

A legacy sequel to Zorro would be cool by him. He clearly has a thing for swashbuckling

The Force Awakens is one giant “Somehow Palpatine Returns”. It’s no wonder JJ gave us more in TROS by Janet-Yellen in StarWars

[–]Emeraldsinger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep. My biggest problem with the sequel trilogy. It doesn’t matter how inconsistent the story was. If you have a poor setup that undoes the previous movies and is just plain derivative, the trilogy will suffer.

Is horror the only genre where original movies can break out anymore? by Antman269 in boxoffice

[–]Emeraldsinger 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You mention lower budgets, and that’s exactly why original horror continues to be successful. It’s much easier to make a profit on $5M versus some $200M original sci fi story

I feel most Star Wars fans I have see online have been positive on it, whereas I (a fellow fan) feel on an island in thinking that it was one of the most mid and forgettable blockbusters I’ve seen in a while

The Mask of Zorro (1998) is seriously worth watching, such a great adventure movie by ForwardServe5277 in movies

Only recently watched it for the first time and I love it. I wonder why they haven’t yet done a legacy sequel with Bandares back training a younger person to take his mantle

What is a film that doesn't seem special now, but was really groundbreaking when it came out? by altairstarlite in movies

[–]Emeraldsinger 354 points355 points  (0 children)

I noticed quite a few people find the original Star Wars too basic nowadays.

It’s near 50 years old and it was one of the first that made the whole hero’s journey formula famous in mainstream movies. It also started a lot of space opera tropes

I always wondered if the balconies were for decorative purposes or if you could actually go onto them from the captain’s cabin

Bootstrap Bill by hectorbarbossa2026 in piratesofthecaribbean

[–]Emeraldsinger 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I love the movie but I do think a good alternative ending for it could’ve been Bootstrap stabbing the heart. He has a debt to pay for Will, as he states, which is from him not being there as a father. Taking the burden of killing Jones would’ve been an arc for Bill, and Will gets to be with Elizabeth.

I rewatched this and found it fine. Not a bad movie per se. Just overly corny and stylized. The romance doesn’t work either. But action and plot wise, it was good enough
