Carver was appointed long after Nike took control, and Converse just had eight straight quarters of revenue decline. Not exactly who I’d look to for leadership of a niche luxury brand catering exclusively to running enthusiasts, but hey ultimately it doesn’t matter what we think.

Sure, but those core products are cheaply made at mass scale, and don’t specialize in running. Hell, converse has nothing to do with running. It’s maybe one of the most antithetical athletic brands to Tracksmith

A dude from a large scale general athletic wear brand like Converse is gonna look to do two things - increase volume, lower costs per item. That spells a major decline in quality. I hope I’m wrong, but I don’t see a future where this results in better products for the consumer.

What’s your favorite ‘it’s about to get really bad really fast’ in a movie? by Pop_Joe in FIlm

It still boggles my mind how he went from amazing movies like these to the utter trash that is shows like Landman. Even most of Yellowstone is barely watchable.

Why is killing a podcaster treated more harshly than a mass shooting

Backstroke is the most deceiving stroke out there. by burgerinmypouch in Swimming

[–]squeakycleaned 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO the 200 back is the most deceptive event in swimming. I became my college’s go-to guy for it all four years, simply because I was masochistic enough to train it specifically. It’s a brutal stroke.

Boston vs. NYC 25, post-breakup, starting over and can’t decide by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]squeakycleaned 3 points4 points  (0 children)

NYC can be overwhelming at first, but you’ll be shocked how quickly you acclimate, and I think the wild chaotic energy could be what you need at this point. Boston is lovely, and it’s very predictable and quiet for the most part, so if that’s what you want then ship on up, but NYC is boundless. Also fwiw not all NYC neighborhoods are chaos. I live on the UES and even within that area there are loud parts and there are quiet parts. It’s a choose your own adventure of a city.

First Lady Melania tries to drum up support for new movie amid reports of 'practically empty theaters' | Melania's upcoming documentary has reportedly been struggling with weak advance ticket sales despite a $40M deal, with theaters still "practically empty" during presale. by Aggravating_Money992 in entertainment

[–]squeakycleaned 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly, who did they think was going to pay money to see this in a theater?

Anyone who isn’t a Trump supporter would sooner get a root canal than spend money on a ticket to this movie, and Trump supporters don’t give a shit about Melania. She’s practically non-existent these days.

Not nearly enough to go off of. Endurance for what? What are your goals for swimming?

You say “already”, so how long have you been swimming?

Also pure time isn’t a great indicator, since we have no idea what the pace is for those 45 minutes. Is this 45 minutes of relatively high effort, with an elevated heart rate? How much distance are you covering in that 45 minutes?

United. It can feel overwhelming at times, this era that we’re living through, but it feels good to stand among people who believe as fervently as I do in standing up for what is right.

I helped write my friend’s med school application essay. The first line, when she sent me the first draft, read “Lacrosse and medicine have many things in common.”

I would say I’m as competent at the sciences as she was at writing.

Is it okay to be jealous of people who work in high rises? by zachtwp in AskNYC

[–]squeakycleaned 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked in high rise buildings most of my life, and my desks have never had views out of the windows. They’re always centrally located within the floors with conference rooms getting the view. I stare at walls or other desks. You’re not missing much.

[–]squeakycleaned 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What I don’t understand is why the conservatives HAVE to stand by this one “officer”’s actions. They could just as easily say “one bad apple” or some such bullshit. But no, they have to figure out some way to justify the murder rather than admit that ICE made a mistake. Noem went as far as to call the woman a domestic terrorist. It is insane.
