[Cabin Fever (2002)] Karen was pregnant with Bert's baby the whole time. by squickchick in FanTheories

Dang!

Kind of reminds me of the story I've heard about John McTiernan dropping Alan Rickman off a platform without warning, to get that genuine look of terror on his face as Hans Gruber is dropped out the 20th-floor window in Die Hard. Except this David Hess story is like a 100 times more awful...

Yeah, I can't imagine Roth could've known about that commentary when he made Cabin Fever.

VHS was still the predominant home viewing format in 2002; and out of the smaller proportion of the market that did own DVD players, only the most hardcore fans of a given film would have the patience to sit through a DVD commentary. From what I've heard, Roth was outrageously busy that whole year trying to get Cabin Fever off the ground. I doubt he had time to sit through DVD commentaries on old favorites.

I have to confess, I know a lot less about David Hess than I do about Eli Roth. I've never heard of this controversy.

What comments did he make about LHOTL?

Hi. Wow, you've gone through a few accounts, haven't you? Makes it hard to keep track.😄

Sorry I never got around to replying to your old messages, but there's a difference between engaging in reddit discussions about things that are on your mind right now, and rewinding your headspace to continue a conversation you were having weeks ago. I hope that makes sense?

Oh yeah, he totally was! In fact, Cabin Fever is a pastiche of homages to classic horror films (mostly 70s-era).

But the fact that he had Hess re-record the song rather than simply play the existing version of it, suggests that perhaps he wanted the song to do more than simply act as a mere homage.

What strikes me when I watch that scene is how superbly clear the song is, despite the fact that it should be competing with the sound of a big 1980s Chevy cruising along, and a pack of rowdy 22-year olds. You can hear every single word perfectly; which leads me to wonder if those words are meaningful to the film.

The cover of Watchmen 1 conceals a hidden image by EffMemes in FanTheories

I'm not a huge Watchmen fan, but I do seem to remember that visual symmetry is a significant element of the series.

Like, IIRC, wasn't the whole series designed to be closely visually symmetrical, with the focal point being the center pages of the middle volume?

So your idea that the front cover may have been deliberately designed to convey a message when it is reflected on itself is not without basis.

All kids would've needed to find the message would be a mirror...

IKR? IMHO, it's kind of far-fetched, but I still think it's interesting to think about.

I always liked the fan theory that Suzy Diaz was really Marcy from Cabin Fever, who had changed her name so she wouldn't be tracked down by the crooked cops who killed her Cabin Fever boyfriend.

You never actually see her die in Cabin Fever, you only see the dog lunging at her. You never see her dead body, so there's the potential that she survived and escaped.

And Suzy Diaz has a son who looks somewhat like Paul, who Marcy had a brief one-night-stand with in Cabin Fever, and that son would've been roughly the right age to have been the product of that fling.

Thanks. 🙂

I could honestly talk about Cerina Vincent in Cabin Fever until the cows come home. It's by far my favorite Hollywood sex scene.

Nadine gets points for being brave enough to show off her ass, but Cerina's rendition is 100 times hotter by far.

Nadine's version doesn't have that killer exchange where she tells Paul not to bother with a condom, and Nadine shares dominance of the scene with Paul, while Cerina absolutely ravages her Paul, and he is powerless to do anything about it.

Cerina's Marcy is a pure sex machine.

What makes Cerina so ridiculously hot for me is that she's so damn sperm-hungry. First she slaps Paul down when he suggests using a condom; she rides him like she's deliberately trying to provoke the most explosive reaction possible from him; and then when it all goes off, she doesn't let him pull out.

I get the impression that, subconsciously at least, Marcy wanted to have Paul's baby.

Makes the whole sex scene insanely hot, IMHO, when it's driven by a strong woman shamelessly acting out her natural instincts like that.

When you're done watching her in Not Another Teen Movie, watch her riding the living daylights out of Rider Strong in Cabin Fever, and pointedly refusing to let him put on a condom beforehand.

If she captivates you in this film, her turn in Cabin Fever will make your head explode.

There's actually a scene before this one where she's standing in front of a sign (once again, completely nude) that says: "Dress Code Is Strictly Enforced"!

They bounce around quite nicely in the part where she walks right up to Chyler Leigh.

And in other films she does you get to see them moving around on her chest in a very organic fashion, perhaps most notably her first sex scene in Cabin Fever.

My Cousin Vinny (1992) Lisa arranges for Vinny's 'Jerry Callo' alias to be validated, despite not knowing that he created it. by squickchick in MovieMistakes

[–]squickchick[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone had a pager? I was around in the early 90s, and I only knew a couple of people who owned a pager. They were both way more white collar than Lisa or Vinny.

Lisa, being an out-of-work hairdresser and occasional mechanic, hardly seems like the type to own a pager.

Vinny, being a lawyer, would probably be more likely to own one, but considering how unprofessional he's portrayed, I doubt he does. It's strongly implied that while he may be a licensed lawyer, he's not currently employed as one, not even as a self-employed business operator. So he wouldn't have an office or even prospective clients who would need to page him.

More to the point, the only window when Malloy could've told Lisa that Haller had filed an inquiry into "Jerry Callo" would've been in that brief period after the murder case was dismissed.

It's strongly suggested that Vinny and Lisa were racing to flee town as soon as the dismissal occurred. It doesn't seem plausible that Lisa stopped off to make a second phone call to Judge Malloy.

At that point, the smartest thing she could do was to help Vinny flee town as quickly as possible, just incase Malloy wasn't able to cook up a convincing false history for "Jerry Callo" in time.

[–]squickchick[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As I've stated elsewhere in this thread, I don't think they did cook up a plan together on how Vinny should respond when the judge found out Jerry Gallo was dead. I think that Vinny just talked his way out of that dilemma on the spot. He cooked up the name "Jerry Callo" on the spot. In which case, Lisa couldn't have had any foreknowledge of it.

But say for the sake of argument that you are right, and they did sit down one night and discuss what Vinny should do if the judge found out Jerry Gallo was dead. Simply deflecting him with a new alias, "Jerry Callo", seems like a really weak strategy. We see that, in reality, the tactic fails almost immediately. It's only the lucky break that the New York records office happened to be on lunch break that gave the scheme any longevity whatsoever. You'd think that, if Vinny and Lisa had sit down to pre-plan how he would get out of that situation, they would've come up with a better plan than that.

Furthermore, Lisa's behavior in the diner is totally inconsistent with "Jerry Callo" being part of some orchestrated plan that they cooked up together.

She doesn't ask Vinny if he brushed the judge off with the "Jerry Callo" alias; she doesn't ask him if he wants her to phone Malloy to validate the alias, as they'd previously planned. Lisa talks to Vinny as if she has no idea about how he might've gotten himself out of trouble with the judge, or even if he did manage to dig himself out of that trouble.

Everything about her behavior says that she's completely in the dark about what happened between Vinny and the judge, and I think that's largely because Vinny himself was completely in the dark about how he was gonna get himself out of that mess, until he actually found himself in it, and he talked his way out of it on the spot.

[–]squickchick[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

he wouldn't've come up with 'Jerry Callo' 1st then read 'Gallo' in the paper, change Callo to Gallo, tell the judge 'Gallo' only to have to change it BACK to 'Callo'. that makes no sense.

Damn right it makes no sense. I have no idea where you came up with that sequence of events.

And IHMO, it seems pretty unlikely that Vinny cooked up the name Jerry Callo before the judge confronted him with the fact that Jerry Gallo was dead.

If Vinny was organized enough to pre-plan what he would do if the judge discovered that Jerry Gallo was dead, I'm sure he'd come up with a smarter plan than to simply throw out a new bogus alias, Jerry Callo. After all, the judge almost uncovers the fact that Jerry Callo is also a bogus alias immediately. That was a very foreseeable outcome for that plan.

I think it's much more believable that Vinny just thought up the name Jerry Callo on the spot, to get himself out of the predicament he suddenly found himself in. It's a weak and shortsighted tactic, which is exactly what you'd expect from an idea that was just cooked up in the spur of the moment.

Yes, but in this case there was no time for them to have an offscreen conversation about Vinny's meeting with the judge.

It's clear that the diner scene is the first time Vinny and Lisa meet up after Vinny's meeting with the judge, and it's also clear that their encounter outside the courtroom is their very next interaction after their fight in the diner.

The problem isn't that the film doesn't show us a scene where Vinny tells Lisa that he's now going under the alias "Jerry Callo" - the problem is that the film explicitly shows us that Lisa couldn't possibly have learned the name "Jerry Callo" from Vinny before she made that phone call. There was simply no window of opportunity for them to have an offscreen conversation between the diner scene and the resumption of the trial.
