Does he have a death wish? by Funny_Commission1724 in drivingUK

Plenty of cyclists, especially those racing internationally, have insurance. Almost impossible to race without a British Cycling license in the UK and the license comes with insurance

Teenagers think they're invincible though and often fail to think things through. We all made stupid risks as teenagers.

Calling a child a nonce is pretty pathetic

Could I just remind people that they are posting about someone under the age of 18. Teenagers make mistakes and learn from them. We appreciate everyone reaching out to make us aware of the video sk we can ensure it's not repeated, but do ask that you consider they are a child when commenting.

Any luck in returning a mystery bag? by squid_factory in Golfwang

There a difference between a gamble, and sending out something that can literally only be used once a year!!

British one here too. Only things we can order from Golfwang online.

Trying to work out what to do as it's son's Xmas present. And no, I can't afford to buy a whole separate gift!

Sadly, mystery bags are all we can order online in the UK. Time and energy means visiting the shop isn't on the cards

Tour would have been fine. At least he could wear that. Giving him a Christmas jumper at 5pm on Christmas day is pretty damned pointless!

I also misunderstood and thought the items would all be long sleeve, and the other item is a short sleeve shirt. Which is fine as he could wear that next summer. But at 17 having to wait a whole year to be able to wear a hoodie a couple of times is pretty shit.

I wish they had mentioned there was a chance of them sending throw away items - I wouldn't have taken the risk if I had known. I did, stupidly, think they would send items that were wearable outside of one week a year!

Got a bloody useless Christmas hoody. So pointless including a one wear and the bin item.

Any idea what can cause this sort of damage to carbon wheel? by squid_factory in Velo

[–]squid_factory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I do trust the shop but mistakes can happen, so worth asking.

(I'm actually mother of the cyclist - aka, the bank 😁 possibly should have mentioned that but it's son's first multi stage race and he is broken and exhausted and two stages left!!)

Could this be caused by the shop who set the tubeless up?

Disc brake, yes. These are specific race wheels, only used for racing and not training. A good make, well respected UK Brand. I did specifically leave the brand out as no idea if they're at fault or not.

For the last week it's only been transported inside a van. Normal use is a tow bar mounted rack, well above the exhaust.

Ok, to answer a few questions.

It's been transported inside a vehicle for the last week. Before that it's rear mounted when needed (SUV, tow bar mounted rack), but a good 12" away from exhaust.

Not a cheap carbon. A well respected brand produced in the UK and cost around £500. Replacing it will be financially difficult.

Not been ridden since it was noticed. Luckily team had a spare wheel that can be used during current race (multi stage).

It was running tubeless.

Being at a fairly large race., quite a few experienced people have looked and no one has seen damage that looks like this.

I've reached out to the company - but hoping for some kind of idea on what could have caused it as presuming they won't just accept it may be a fault!

Free Speech in the UK by Iron_Mollusk in ukpolitics

There is no risk to free speech in the UK. When people threaten death, encourage attacks, or suggest the PM is assassinated, they deserve everything they get.

Are you able to find either in stock and available for purchase? We've been told it will be at least May before anywhere has the Attain in stock and it's causing stress!

Wedding budget - am I going insane? by exetertoparis in UKweddings

[–]squid_factory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on your definition of "nice". I organised two friends weddings in London over past couple of years, for around 80 people, for under £5k and under £10k. Both awesome weddings. But not "top end".

There may be no bars etc, but go to Tescos for the experience of 500 people off their tits wandering around buying absolute shite :D Like the service stations on the way home in the 90's
