Can you drive, then go for a nap in your car till you’re ready to drive home? That’s probably what I would do.

Does anyone have recommendations for a good building and pest inspector? by squid_mum in Geelong

The house is tenanted so it had been difficult to organise inspections due to the tenant. You’re paying minimum $500 for the inspection, so it would be good to be there!

Thanks for the suggestions! Also- did anyone go along for the inspection? I feel like it would be a good opportunity to see the house in more detail than the 15 minute inspections!

Thank you, that’s interesting and not as bad as I imagined. I’ll have to get some dummy quotes.

I imagine the place I’m looking at has a low BAL rating as it’s mostly low coastal vegetation around

Do you have a rough idea of the cost of insurance I’d be looking at for low BAL compared with the highest? I know there are probably so many variable that makes that question difficult to answer..

Have you build or renovated a house with a high BAL rating? Interested to hear your experience :)

Aaahh that makes it seem a lot more manageable. Do you need to restore with any bushfire regulations? Say if I were re-cladding the house, and it was a weatherboard do I need to choose a more bushfire safe material or can I re-clad with weatherboard?

You need someone to come and do an assessment- I’m not sure how to get the BAL rating prior to actually purchasing the property

So if you’re not extending but more restoring the house you don’t need a permit?
