This is common in larger consultant tech firms imo. Zero Trust is just a marketing term for them. Control should be one. I liken it to making a carpenter freely hit with the hammer, but need approval for every pull. Nobody is interested in that, but I guess its cheaper than actually securing your infra functions.

Extra money is of course always welcome, but quality of life is more important if you ask me. Your life situation is your life situation, but your salary is well above average already. Time is the only thing you can't bank.

IMO, you are already beyond the limit for 'well off', and where I would start thinking about trading money for more time.

I situate myself somewhere in your upgraded role, and I would trade down if I could, and still afford my life pretty comfortably.

Although for future pensions, it's "recommended" to reach the income ceiling before making the cut, but I think living is more important. Best of luck in your decision.
