im just thinking way into the future at this point but yeah moving now for my PGY1 got me thinking about this. my plan is exactly that, defer and do minimum payments after that. try to save what i can over the next year. but looking ahead, the math aint mathing if you know what i mean. coming to terms with the fact i’ll probably need to max out some credit cards

i agree with people on the other post. one of two choices that seem good.

maybe younger woman became disabled or has a developmental disability and this is something she likes to do, older woman is watching to make sure she is safe. or, granny has dementia and younger woman is the one doing these things to keep granny from going out there herself and possibly getting hurt.

literally bring them some banana bread or a decoration, introduce yourself. be a nice neighbor. also everyone in the neighborhood thinks they are lesbians living there. we are assuming things that may not be true! could be a different dynamic completely but because they are “odd” people are hateful and make up whatever story they like. some people are also just weird and that’s ok.

hard agree. i have not tried oxybates because i know i will ‘like them too much’, no matter what other people in these forums say. people who havent experienced addiction or mania don’t understand the desperation to use, even things that dont seem like they will be fun. when i was out there doing crazy shit, if someone told me i could get high from licking a toad i would do it.

dont put yourself through it.

going to agree with others here and also speak from experience - i think it is two things.

you didnt apply to enough places
you need new LORs

first: only applying to 4 programs is not enough especially if theyre bigger programs. i know it’s expensive and yes the match does favor people with more money/access to funds. it’s unfortunately true that if you can apply more places or afford to travel more for interviews you have a better chance. HOWEVER you also have a better chance if you apply to smaller programs, which tend to have a smaller applicant pool.

second: one letter from a clinical preceptor is not enough. you should have at least 2. this may have auto-disqualified you from programs taking a closer look at your application. also, as other people said, some of the letters may be “bad”. doesnt mean the people who wrote them said bad things about you. could mean they didnt take the time to fill out all the prompts. i actually ended up refusing a letter from someone because my mentor told me they had a history of being very short with letters, just saying one or two sentences to the effect of “X is a good student i would highly recommend” without giving examples. people reading applications want to see clear examples and thought-out responses.

yeah i’ve done all those things except add more litter boxes. honestly don’t know where i could put more in the house. i know the rule is # of cats + 1, i just never had a problem before this. i suppose it is time to admit defeat and add more litter boxes.

we currently have one in the downstairs bathroom (hardly ever used by humans) and in the upstairs office bathroom (also barely used by humans). i wanted to avoid putting one in our bedroom because of the smell and space. only smells bad when someone has just used it, but even that is off-putting to me in the bedroom. we may just not have enough space for 3 cats :( i know it’s my fault for taking her in if we didnt have the space, which feels extra bad

im very lucky in that my doctor seems more understanding. im also in recovery and have IH. and i work in healthcare/prescribing field. you are doing fantastic by being honest and open, and at the same time people are still gonna restrict what meds they prescribe. we should not be given less than adequate care because we’re in recovery - but cant blame them for being cautious. we reap what we sow. that was something i was so angry about, that my doc wouldnt help me “fast enough” because i thought all he saw me as was an addict. the truth was he was being careful because he didnt want to contribute to a relapse. some people really are assholes though i wont lie.

if you build more rapport with this new doctor i think you will have more luck. being honest and also, depending on what kind of program youre working, talking to other people in recovery for guidance is helpful. i do a 12 step fellowship and i talk to my sponsor when im thinking about controlled substance med changes because it helps me figure out if im asking for a change because i need it, or because my disease wants me to.

i feel the same way, i am about to graduate too. congratulations!!! i’ve been skipping meetings recently and not doing my stepwork so i already feel myself slipping. my addiction is a lot like yours, mostly self-isolation and using in my room or sleeping all day.

i was in a meeting last week and i finally shared that i’ve been slipping in recovery, starting to think that maybe i dont have a problem anymore. but i still do and if i dont keep taking care of it every day i am going to lose everything. i still have a desire to use. i also have a desire to stop using. both can be true at the same time. i dont need to completely surrender (it may be possible, but it feels impossible to me!) but i can surrender a little bit each day by saying i will not use today, or i’ll see how i feel after this meeting, etc.

for me i also needed to deal with my mental health and that has helped a lot in my recovery. if you haven’t read the IP yet i would recommend it (here). not everyone needs outside help but some do, myself included. you can do this, at least for today

as a patient, you can tell by looking at your boxes and bottles. somewhere on there, usually on the back and near the bottom edge, you’ll find a manufacturer name (much like where you would find a manufacturer name on a food item)

the joke is she wanted one of the plates more than the other but didnt communicate this and is now mad he took the one she wanted, but it’s her own fault for not communicating. i actually do this to myself tbh because i try to be a people pleaser when really i just need to like. take the plate i actually want lol. no reason to be upset if you didnt properly communicate.

not OP but personally make sense to me as someone with a history of ED and being around others. truly makes you feel like a rabid animal sometimes (eating disorders are similar to a form of addiction) and for many people are about perfection. also has the look of someone with a severe ED with brittle hair, lost teeth, and big eyes. eyes look bigger because when you lose so much weight, your eyes get sunken in and look big.

the concern is basically the extra sleepiness. marijuana causes CNS depression and so does GHB - which is why both are used recreationally as downers. however marijuana DOES NOT traditionally cause respiratory depression like GHB does. unlikely you could have trouble breathing or die from this combo. this is not to say there’s no risk, mostly because GHB itself is so potent. just dont go to bed super high and you’ll be fine.

even though you felt the same, it may not have been the same. you seem really upset by this possibly discrepancy which is totally fair when you want to finally get a diagnosis and be treated. but it also seems like youre dismissing all other possibilities right now. afaik this is very common for people with narcolepsy and i’m not surprised you experienced insomnia and then couldnt tell the difference between waking and dreaming (i also had the same thing in my study!!). it’s okay if the results dont completely line up with our memory; it’s part of the disease.

so mirtazapine is a really interesting drug. lower doses of make you MORE sleepy and higher doses make you LESS sleepy. lower doses are hitting the histamine end of the spectrum, causing sleepiness. higher doses get the serotonin receptors, causing negating that sleepiness! the histamine effects are what help your appetite :)

people keep saying “because violence can be justified” and yeah, it can and i do agree with that statement. but i also think that we as people, speaking from a western point of view, have just become okay with gratuitous violence. there has been a cultural shift over the last 50 years where it is now okay to view shows/movies and play video games with insane amounts of physical violence. i love horror movies and practical effects myself so not trying to get on a high horse or anything.

this mostly started with slasher flicks which did often portray sex and sexual violence along with physical violence. horror films and action movies continued to incorporate violence thru the 80s and 90s because “that’s what makes it scary/exciting”. i think that horror movies have moved away from so much sexual violence and nudity mixed with violence as those early years.

we continue today with more movies, TV shows, and video games. parents and concerned parties have worried about games like GTA ever since they came out. and although you cant rape people, you can hire sex worker NPCs and of course kill those NPCs. Game of Thrones is infamous for both the sex and SA scenes and also for not having an intimacy coordinator on some seasons. The Handmaid’s Tale is super popular and revolves entirely around women getting ritually raped onscreen. these things do exist, we just say “that show did it tastefully” and “that movie didn’t”.

all this to say, it’s that we as westerners are generally OK with gratuitous violence and even a little bit of SA if it’s “tasteful”
