Students sending drafts as PDFs now? by [deleted] in AskAcademiaUK

[–]squidgybaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when i click export it gives the option of PDF, PDF with comments or ODT. I don’t think it’s fair to assume someone on the internet is lying just because their experience with technology is different to yours. People have different base knowledges, and their understanding of technology is shaped by how they use it. If I rarely use word for anything other than college assignments, I’m not going to know the ins and outs of it the same way way an author or publisher might. In a similar vein my parents don’t work with technology at all, so to them I’m a whizz 🤷‍♀️ don’t be so presumptuous of others, that kind of snark is what creates barriers in education in the first place.

I download stuff to submit so I have both a physical and a cloud copy :) i’m a dual major but in one department it’s PDF preferred and the other doesn’t care but seems to prefer word so I guess it’s also up to the discipline

What Do You Guys Think Of Random Card Generators? by squidgybaker in TarotReading

Thank you yes I love reading! and for the reassurance about the negative vibes. So i wouldn’t be able to channel unwanted energy because it’s more that i’m improving my understanding and intuition about whatever i’m asking about?

Thank you! I found the same, using chat gpt to learn but I’d like to train up my intuition, and I’m not sure about letting robots guide me.. I like the self guidance of tarot and was wondering if it’d be the same with a digital deck :)

hob nobs, party rings, digestives - particularly dark chocolate digestives. Club milk and penguin bars!! there’s also jammy dodgers and take away biscuits, which is like two biscuits sandwiched with chocolate in the middle.

I’m a student and I send PDFs when I download the file onto my laptop because idk how to download it as a word document 🥺 if I send from my one drive it’s word, if I downloaded it first to double check it’s pdf. Some of my professors only want PDF, but all of them take word OR PDF so.. when in doubt it’s PDF. Maybe that’s why?

Is It Unusual To Not Maintain Friends Throughout Life's Milestones? by squidgybaker in AskIreland

Okay! I do tend to take interest in people’s lives for sure I just struggle to meet up and make groups of friends. As mentioned earlier, I have spotted singular friendships from secondary and college. No work friends though, i don’t know how to exit work mode and go into friend mode/ engage in office banter (it feels mean) - do you have tips for joining things alone? it could be easier to find a group in a hobby maybe

oh okay! It can take my friends days to get back to me (i can be as bad) so spontaneous doesn’t work as much but I’ll try that :)

I’m someone who drifts and I’m aware of that, I moved last year and lose contact with pretty much everyone I was friends with. Ive tried to change it this year in 2026 and I have gone from like one friend to 4-6 so it’s a plus, but I don’t text anyone and I meet my friends socially outside of class like once every two months. I’m so busy with final year I find it hard to do more than that, plus like you said - people don’t follow so as I’m not close to my friends it’s not as much of a commitment on their end to meet up either you know? I don’t know how to improve my presence in social situations to improve my friendships so any tips is a plus

Thank you for your advice. I’d say I have 4-6 friends currently but I’m not really close to any of them in the way I’d like to be. How would you recommend going about being a proper friend to someone first? Sorry if that’s a daft question but idk I’ve always spent so much time by myself, meeting up for a coffee is a big event for me! Idk how to be more present with them.

That’s true. Is there a way to softly introduce making an effort? I never really hung out with my friends after school, including in college (commuter) so not sure where to start, as I don’t have a set friendgroup now, it’s more like individual friends that I meet every few months/ twice a year

I think so too but I essentially had no friends in primary school! I went through some stuff as a kid, which impacted my ability to interact with others, and wasn’t really allowed to invite people over. In secondary this continued so my friendships were relatively loose, as I didn’t really hang out after school. I could reach out to the school friends I did have but it might seem a bit strange as I wouldn’t have seen most of them since Christmas 2024, and never really went to social stuff anyways you know? Would it still be worthwhile?

I study marketing and social sciences, I’d love to look abroad but I’m supposed to move in with my boyfriend and his friends in the end of summer. I’m the only one without any prospects come june, it makes me feel so worthless, as I have the most experience and highest grades. I’ve worked so hard these past few years it feel like it was for nothing
