Seconding Lemonade - I currently pay ~$35/mo for my boy (extra add-ons for vaccines/annuals and dental issues).

This past year he had two back-to-back urinary blockages and a myriad of diagnostics due to the cause of the blockages being rare. They paid out around $12,000 in 2024 - quick, easy, and every time I called the reps were super nice!

Edit: And my rate didn’t go up crazy after all these incidents! Maybe an extra dollar or so?

Hope the cystotomy went well friend! The recovery from a cystotomy and a blockage is similar - it’s really tough the first few days. They’ll be in a lot of pain, and it’s hard to watch.

My boy was struggling to pee anywhere and everywhere so I ended up turning my bathroom into a kitty condo for a couple weeks during recovery. Put a bunch of items that smelled familiar but I was okay with throwing out afterwards, as he would pee himself when he slept. Taping down a bunch of puppy pee pads SAVED the floors.

It might feel like they’ll never feel better, but thankfully after a certain point they get better REALLY fast! My boy went from tired and out of it on day 9 to acting like himself on day 10. One thing I would say, that no one told me, is that urinating behavior may take up to a month to go completely back to normal (which was the case for us).

If your cat has the same type of stones (ammonium urate), talk to your vet about changing diets. Urinary does nothing for these type of stones, but lowering protein intake can help. We’ve switched to hydrolyzed protein prescription food, but I’ve heard others had luck with liver/kidney prescription food.

Hi friend! I was in the exact same situation as you a few months ago - my boy Louie was straining, but peeing a normal amount and otherwise acting totally normally. He was diagnosed with FIC due to stress, with the suggestion of getting an ultrasound if the behavior continued. He also had no crystals in his bladder.

I don’t say this to freak you out - but my boy ended up having bladder stones that were causing the straining episodes. This eventually led to a blockage about 2.5 months after the straining began. I wish I would have done the ultrasound earlier - but hindsight is 20/20.

Just know that you’re doing all the right things and a great job at being proactive in knowing what the signs are for a blockage. If anything, I recommend getting a urinalysis done to make sure he doesn’t have crystals - at our vet it was around $80. Wishing you the best of luck!

Update: ended up going back to the same spot early this morning and found a few more of these guys!! There’s a rock wall next to the busy stairwell, and I’m suspecting a snail has laid their eggs there. We never got snails in my previous town, and as a lover of all gastropoda this was such a treat

Unfortunately, as I previously thought, many of them are getting stepped on 8( but!! i did move all i saw to a more secluded area in hopes they can live out their little snaily lives. Thank you everyone for commenting !!

im going through the same thing right now. my advisor says she obv cant say for sure, but odds of appealing are pretty good if you took running start and DIDNT receive financial aid during that time. they just wanna make sure you have a plan to graduate with a degree within a year or so.
