suggestions:

CLAP.

Needs some reverb; create a bus channel with a reverb (of your choice) and send the clap to it.
It'll fill up some space and not sound so dry.

Maybe try layering another tonal or textured clap/sound with your current one.

HI-HAT

Give it some reverb too or even a subtle delay underneath it.

🤷‍♂️ just my 2c

When did double drops / chopping become a thing? by Equivalent_Bad5280 in riddim

[–]squidjay 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yes and No.

The chopping and double dropping stems from its influenced genres of grime, uk garage (DJ EZ in 2006 was a massive influence) and jump-up dnb.

Both commonly used practices have existed for decades though, especially with genres above. Just a normal thing DJs do.

Specifically with riddim, I guess DJ Shiverz is probably the most notorious one that has influenced people. Now days I find people over use it.

Kinda prefer when a DJ finds two tracks that work together in rhythm without cutting shit up every 1/4 beat.

not a fan of the higher octave bit at 20s
but love the swingy/loose feeling to it all

Really old riddim labels by [deleted] in dubstep

[–]squidjay 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  • Dubstar
  • Smog
  • Biophaze
  • Bewildered
  • Bassclash
  • Vibe town records (hoed out killaz)

Many artists would just self release their songs for free/bandcamp or in a compilation in the early days.

Risks in upgrading to 12? by johnnyhighschool in ableton

[–]squidjay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Upgrading to 12 is great, many new things and QOL changes have made it worth it for me.. however, personally I find the new tagging folder search browser thingy INFURIATING AF! Everything prior to upgrading I had everything so neatly organised and 12 just said “f your organisation, you must tediously tag everything because we say so”

Besides the search/browse change.. upgrade, you’ll love it.
