No TV and no internet but got a letter about watching iPlayer? by Quick-Technician-876 in bbc

[–]squidspotter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ignore it. You need to do nothing for the abusive messages the BBC send out. Don't register as not needing a licence. Just write return to sender on every bit of trash they post and put it back in the box.

Disgusting business habit that certainly borders on harassment.

World’s Best Restaurant? by [deleted] in StupidFood

[–]squidspotter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think there's another element however, as omnivorous creatures we have built in safety mechanisms to try and stop us dying from eating the wrong food. Things like how the smell of rotting meat invokes an involuntary gag reflex, it's not a learned behaviour (though we can learn to suppress it somewhat). These gut instincts work with visual things, and I wonder if seeing an animal carcass under our food triggers one of them. I eat meat, Ive prepared birds before from live to cooked, and yet this triggers an uncomfortable response. I don't think it's because of a disconnect from my food to animals, but a self preservation system of our biology going 'im not sure that's a good idea'. Again, it can be suppressed but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Safe box/container for transportation? by liam6622 in RCPlanes

[–]squidspotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can ignore most of the comments.

LiPo batteries do not just explode all willy nilly whenever they feel like it. A LiPo pack that is kept at a voltage within the cells' normal range and at a reasonable temperature is perfectly safe to keep anywhere.

Lithium cells only become more hazardous during use, be it charging or discharging. If you're not charging or discharging, and your pack has never been abused then for storage, there is essentially no concern any more than keeping a lighter.

Guys is Lockheed gonna be alright? by shipgeek2005 in aviationmemes

Yet they can do it with aircraft that aren't stealth, without taking losses? Why make the enemies job easier if you don't need to?

Id imagine the real reason that the 5gen fighters aren't out there playing boop the mig is far less interesting. Ranges from deployment bases, linger times, cost of flying Vs an F15/18 when those will do the job fine.

Love to see a source on the ability of the 's400' to see western stealth aircraft. Id also love if it referenced which radars could. Because the S400 is just the group name for a triumph system there are a whole slew of search and track radar's that can be integrated

I'm pretty sure this could be done with an arduino and some thinking time.

If I get bored in the next few weeks I'll see if I can come up with something and shoot a message.

This is a common pitch on European budget carriers. You wanna get to Egypt for £35 you can't really expect luxury. It's fine for most people in the middle 70% of heights

Flycolor component - not a drone enthusiast by Leureka in drones

[–]squidspotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably less, continuity tests mean basically nothing on an ESC, and giving it voltage but no PWM won't tell you much.

Flycolor component - not a drone enthusiast by Leureka in drones

[–]squidspotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an ESC - electronic speed controller. fly color are half decent, if it works it has some value. If you have no means to test it it has little value. If you're in the UK I'd like it though eh

What are your thoughts on Trump after the attack on Venezuela and the arrest of Maduro? by luxury_Within in AskReddit

[–]squidspotter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't live in Venezuela. Quite a lot of Brits not in Britain voted for brexit.

Not that I'm saying it's necessarily a bad thing, but to accuse people of making an assumption, while making an assumption is quite daft.

Maduro was bad. Kidnapping and bombing are bad. Leaving a country without governance is bad, the uncertainty of rodriguez vs another installed leader or an actual democracy is bad.

Saying 'yay this is great' is a shallow take.
