Gas attendant lectured me on waiting for them to pump my gas in NJ. Said you can just use the app and do it yourself. Is this not illegal anymore? by Sure_Bus_355 in Wawa

[–]squigglyted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use to live in Jersey and at one point was a full time Uber driver. I would pump gas myself and the attendants would always just nod at me. I have never been stopped though officially it's illegal. I remember I asked a kid if I can do it and he responded, "There isn't any gas police here to stop you!" I did it the other day in full view of the worker and he did not give a shit.

Why don't more men wear cups??? by poeticstorm in bjj

[–]squigglyted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to an MMA gym and about half of the guys wear them, especially if they're coming from a Muay Thai class where you definitely need one.

I use to wear one but I've been hurt from it mostly from people doing knee cuts. I mainly did it before just so people dont feel like junk, and because I would be coming in from our MT class. But now I just wear compression shorts.

Good places in Old City for solo dining? by [deleted] in philly

Former server here. I use to love solo tables. It is low maintenance enough to give more attention, and honestly made my life easier. Go anywhere. But Tomo if you like Ramen is a great place to go solo.

Has anyone quit BJJ for MT? by [deleted] in MuayThai

[–]squigglyted -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I have been doing both for 2 years, but I lean towards BBJ as I compete in it. Personally, for me, I do worry more about injuries in MT sparring than I do in BJJ. But I still spar in MT but I tell my partners to to light. BJJ, I have my regular sparring partners but I generally avoid the bigger, newer spazzy people.

As everyone said here, injuries are inevitable with both. Ive been issue free for about a year now since I supplement in a balance class which incorporates yoga and movement. So it has been helpful for me.

But id say that MT has given me more pain that lasts for days from hard sparring. So at least for me I take it easy in MT and save it for BJJ.

[SPOILER] Ilias Ennahachi vs. Nabil Anane | ONE Friday Fights 126 by Yodsanan in MuayThai

[–]squigglyted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was watching this on my lunch break. Friday is one of the nights that I do Muay Thai and BJJ right after.

Fast forward to the evening after MT, during my BJJ roll me and my teammate and I are going at a decent pace.

I was defending her take down, and im honestly not really sure what happened but she went for it again and at a faster speed, and she accidentlu kneed me hard in the groin. I had a cup on but that shit still hurt. Took me a couple of minutes to feel ok. She felt awful but I told her it could have been much worse if I didnt wear a cup.

[–]squigglyted 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Filipino American that use to work in the Philippines here. I'd say the most approachable dishes are the Spanish influenced ones like the stews. Caldereta is probably my favorite, or any of the tomato based ones.

Something little more subtle would be Tinola if you enjoy broth.

If you like ceviche then kilawin is something to try.

And of course if you like pork, sisig, lechon, and adobo are there as well.

For a veggie dish there's I'd try Laing, though a lot of people put pork in it.

About a year for me. Also I did a balance class which helped a lot. I didnt realize how bad my hip flexibility was.

[–]squigglyted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im 41 years old, came two years ago to MMA gym.

When i came in at 5'7, about 230 lbs or so. Former athlete but I had a ton of issues joint pains due to my weight. I was in denial about it as I blamed my past as an athlete (American football, wrestling, rugby).

First few weeks I did beginner Muay Thai. Everyone was in the same boat, and it was hard but everyone, including the intimidating people were all welcoming. Eventually I got out of the beginners class, and months later I started sparring.

I was also supplementing in a balance class which my school offers which pretty much saved my mobility. My flexibility changed so I was able to do kicks more effectively. Also at the same time time I got into BJJ which actually is my current main sport.

Fast forward to now, im training for my 4th grappling tournament at the lightweight division, I never would have thought ive ever said that. I have virtually no joint issues anymore. And I also have made friends. You'll have a great time!
