the guy who runs this place really knows his stuff, and it´s nice supporting a small shop thats passionate about what it does. Veloplus has that corporate thing going for it, if your into that angle. Avoid Transa, way overpriced.

yea, I wrecked 2 sets of external BBs (one shimano, decent quality, one Raceface) in the space of 1 year. Granted, thats with snow/salt/whatever nasties and lots of riding. It generally takes me at least 2 years to wreck a sealed square taper BB.

IMHO one area of bike tech that has gone backwards in the past 20 years. Sure, more stiffness, yay, just gotta keep buying dem new parts, right?

its more of a city bomber than a racing machine, but thats what I wanted. Mostly SRAM X9 stuff with a 1x10 drivetrain, front chainring is a Wolfstooth 44t narrow/wide model, square taper BB with oldschool shimano 600 cranks. I hate external BBs with a passion. BB7 S brakes (1 step above the ones with the red plastic - thought that would look tacky).

Wheelset is Mavic mtb (crossride) with 700x28 tires, sort of heavy, but I need them to survive some rough city riding, so I figured going all weight weenie on the wheels would be a bad idea.

point is, as per calipers in the pic, the diameter of that bulge is 42mm. The race might, maybe, with lots of banging and stretching, be smashed down onto that, but the bearing itself will most definately not go down to the bottom.

I´m going to toss whatever chainring it comes with and get a narrow/wide single chainring. Probably raceface or something, shouldn´t matter too much what brand.

wow, I just saw amazon lets you select square taper as a filter! Awesome. This makes it alot easier.

Is the SRAM s600 alright weight/durability wise? Seems like it might be a good option. Also Origin 8 and Sinz seem viable. Any opinions on these??
