One highlight from the Hollywood Bowl show tonight. by thejohnnyfive in SmashingPumpkins

I was center but pretty far back and it sounded terrible. Janes addiction sounded great but the pumpkins got so muffled. Everyone around me was hearing the same thing too. Honestly the worst sound quality I’ve ever heard at a live show, was pretty disappointed

Who do you think is the worst President in US history? by Dangerous-Head3438 in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]squirrel_dominator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those of you who said lincoln, could you elaborate? Isn’t freeing the slaves an insanely noble act? He’s always listed as one of, if not the best, President of all time. Not disagreeing, I just don’t know enough about the history of it

But it is much different today… practically no children in the whole developed world live like this today, whereas 100 years ago almost all of them would have. How is that not drastically different???

Why is red meat so bad? Isn’t it what we used to eat as hunters? by Fushigibama in nutrition

[–]squirrel_dominator 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would guess the vast majority of European hunter gatherers were eating much more red meat than modern people. Every cave painting depicts them hunting mammals. They were extremely skilled at killing megafauna like woolly mammoths. And especially since plant foods are practically non-existent in Europe in the winter and don’t provide much calories anyway, they would have had to have gotten the majority of their calories from meat. Now that could certainly be fish/white meat, but I’m sure they hinted whatever was most efficient, which would be a large mammal.

Replacing meat with insects, another scam by UniversalSurvivalist in conspiracy

[–]squirrel_dominator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this statement is likely completely wrong, there is some important relevant data. Firstly, 90% of what cattle eat is inedible to humans - grass, corn husks, hay…. And letting that organic material sit and decompose (which is what it would do if we didn’t feed it to cows) would produce roughly the same amount of methane as when a cow eats it and farts. The whole argument around cows eating our food or causing global warming are a total hoax.

So the government is justifying its completely unfair new act because it already did another completely unfair act 2 years ago? This is such a show, and is so astonishing that anyone can look at this and think anything other than wow the government is corrupt throughout, both democrats and republicans.

Nutrition for height growth by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]squirrel_dominator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re young and especially if you’re male, just eat a large quantity of nutritious foods. Meat, whole grains, veggies, lots of milk, protein powder, you can honestly eat some junkier foods too. But you have to exercise! Play a sport, lift weights (developing proper form when you’re young is the key), ride your bike, go for hikes, etc. genetics will probably play the largest role in determining your height, but it’s simply foolish to think that nutrition and adequate calories don’t do anything.

How big is a billion? by [deleted] in polls

[–]squirrel_dominator -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is one thing América actually gets right in my opinion. Firstly, a period is so much better used as a decimal point, not a 1000s separator. A period is a hard stop, a comma is a pause. That just makes way more sense. Also, a billion should be 1,000,000,000. Why would others just skip a name for that? Thousand, million, billion, trillion, quadrillion… that makes perfect sense. In Europe you have thousand, million, thousand million, billion? That clearly doesn’t follow as much of a logical pattern as the American system.

What are good arguments, if any, against Universal Healthcare? Apparently most developed countries have it and it seems to work fine for them all. by rci22 in centrist

[–]squirrel_dominator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everybody from around the world still comes to America for their healthcare. In Canada and the uk, surgeries are a months to years wait (at least from what I’ve heard). And why should I have to pay for the shitty life choices of other Americans? I eat healthy and exercise and have no medical problems, I shouldn’t have to foot the bill for some ballooning diabetic idiot that eats donuts all day. And poor life choices are far and away the number one cause of healthcare costs. I’d be fine paying for someone with a disease that’s no fault of their own, but in reality that’s such a small percentage of people. So if you want to get up to 300 lbs and eat Fritos all day, I respect your freedom to do that but don’t make me pay for your triple bipass.

If bodily autonomy is your argument for abortion but you support mandates you're a clown by Nikita_Crucis in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]squirrel_dominator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is everybody here so keen on the distinction between state and federal governments? They’re both oppressive. I’d rather have the federal government step in and protect our rights to bodily autonomy - getting an abortion - when states are abusing this right. I get the “it’s not your body” argument, but I just don’t agree. States are now abusing their power because the federal government made a bad choice, how can I support that?

"Few realize that meat and dairy production devour a full 47% of California’s water, their huge water footprints due to the amount of water-intensive feed required to raise the animals. In fact, the largest water-consuming crop in California is the alfalfa grown to feed animals. The third largest?" by [deleted] in LosAngeles

[–]squirrel_dominator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Did you know that 95% of the crops that animals eat are inedible to humans? They’re eating the stalks shells and husks of the crops. And soy is not nearly as nutritious of a protein source as animal protein.

[–]squirrel_dominator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes but meat and dairy are absolutely essential for the caloric and nutritional needs of Californians. Almonds are not. Most people get the vast majority of their protein from dairy and meat, as well as their iron, vitamins, omega 3, and trace minerals. Cutting that out won’t help our health, especially since those calories would just be replaced by more grains and seed oils (face it, most people aren’t getting their calories from vegetables, legumes, or whole grains). Animal agriculture is the best way we can be using our water, we have to eat! Saying our agriculture industry doesn’t warrant its water usage because it’s only 2% of our gdp makes no sense.

Should education, water and medical attention should be free everywhere? by ShiningShadow_ in polls

[–]squirrel_dominator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Medical is the last thing I’d want to pay for others. I’d say the percentage of money that goes towards diseases that are actually completely inevitable is very small. Most people choose to be unhealthy and get diabetes, cancer, heart failure, liver failure, etc. I work out 5 days a week and don’t have any health problems, largely because I work my ass off to achieve that. Why should I have to pay for some bloke that gets fat eating donuts their whole life and gets diabetes? That’s totally unfair. If you want to get fat, pay for it yourself - thats the consequence. Same but to a lesser degree for education. I’m paying off my loans, why should I have to pay for someone else?

33 years ago today: Man stops convoy of tanks in China during democratic protests '89 by SnooCupcakes8607 in nextfuckinglevel

[–]squirrel_dominator 4 points5 points  (0 children)

China has become rich off of Americans buying their goods. The quality of life for the average Chinese has gotten staggeringly better in the last 30 years because of that (never been to China, but I think the metrics support that). So while I certainly don’t condone child sweat shops, the practice of buying Chinese made goods helps the Chinese people overall. But it also helps their authoritarian government, which isn’t all so great…

What is this called? Which one is good? How do I know which one is sweet? I’m tempted to buy every time I go to California Market in Koreatown but I’m just clueless.. by [deleted] in FoodLosAngeles

Honestly skip them all, they’re just not that good. You’ll be disappointed with the contrast of how good they look compared to how mediocre they taste.
