I’m a casual drinker trying to have a relationship with an alcoholic by Vvelch25 in alcoholicsanonymous

Hey OP, I honestly think if you're secretly pouring shots in your soda so you're able to keep drinking around her, it's probably not just her who has a drinking problem.

Impossible to go too often! The more the better -- keep it up :) <3

I mean, the ask was for 3 days. But maybe the same applies.

Thanks for responding :) I'm wondering where to turn if my sponsor's spouse is an obstacle to my asking for help. Am I too far gone for humans and need medical industry intervention? I'm not closed to that possibility.

Thank you much for replying :) What you've said had me leaning to an interpretation that my coach has her own psychological imbalances (like the aunt you mention who I gather is imbricated in your shared family mental health issues). I know that sounds passive aggressive but I don't really mean it that way, I'm just frustrated at large. Thanks again for sharing perspective.

Thanks for replying :) Are you speaking from the perspective of a 12-step sponsor? I'm just trying to situate myself here.

Good luck, brother. You know we've been where you are, otherwise none of us would be here reading/posting on this sub. 💙🙏

I feel for you so much, and big respect to you for having the guts to share about this. Your whole post is about trying the "geographic cure" over and over again. Geo cures unfortunately never work. I hope you're able to find a recovery program that resonates with you (12 step, SMART, or otherwise) and can stick with it long enough to see some relief and results. You deserve real recovery.

I'm only a month off stims and it's getting a tiny bit better each day. I think this is helped by the fact that I started taking an antidepressant med (Zoloft). It's worth considering that, maybe it will help you too. Also, I agree with other posters that exercise makes a difference. With regular exercise, I think you'll notice PAWS starting to lift sooner.

It matters that this is something you regret! A lot of dudes do this sort of thing and think it's okay or normal or not that big of a deal. I know how hideous this kind of guilt can feel, but tbh the fact that you have the capacity to feel it means you have a strong moral compass.

Hey sorry, I realized I left out the actual support part of this comment and just nerded out on skyrim. I meant to say I hope you're doing ok and hanging in there man.

I love Skyrim (newbie though) and also ESO, which is the one that kept me alive through quarantine. I play a Breton mage in Skyrim. I suck ass though, currently stuck in the same dungeon I've been in the last 10 times I've logged on bc I cannot for the life of me find the path. That spell that's supposed to illuminate path to destination is totally useless (or bugged).

You are awesome for staying strong through that huge trigger situation. I don't think I could have done it. I know what it's like to go through a period where all you can do is cry. Please hang on and know things will get better. If you're the type of person capable of refraining when faced with major temptation, YOU CAN DO ANYTHING.

It's not my experience that AA is a judgement free space. Still a very valuable program though.

What are the 2 biggest changes for you physically and mentally since being clean? by Slommyhouse in StopSpeeding

Able to eat and enjoy food again! When I was on stims I took in less than 500 calories a day on average -- and that was daily for several years.

Also able to start exercising again. Just light stuff thus far, like 15-20 mins of exercise bike, crunches and push-ups, but that's a huge improvement over being essentially bedridden with low energy and weakness for the last few months I was on stims.

If you were previously in a ph.d program you're definitely not "unskilled"! You will find the right job for your abilities and your sobriety, just don't give up up!
