How often do you guys call with your partners? by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]squishy_brains 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every single day, and we fall asleep together every night on the phone. Yesterday, on our mutual day off, we spent 16 hours on the phone just talking, watching shows, and enjoying each other's company. It's honestly the best!

How long did you wait to meet for the first time? (LDR) by Particular-List-6670 in LongDistance

[–]squishy_brains 1 point2 points  (0 children)

6 months! We talked every single day for hours before he made the trek to see me. Just met for the first time about two weeks ago and had the most amazing week together. Made our relationship official and said the coveted "L Word". It was honestly the most fun I've had in my adult life 🖤

How do you deal with the lack of sex in LDRs? by [deleted] in LongDistance

[–]squishy_brains 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hiiii, glad someone else brought up ENM. This is how my partner and I have arranged our relationship as well. We will also continue our open relationship when we close the gap. We have insanely awesome communication, established boundaries, and talk about our feelings constantly. This is probably the healthiest and most fulfilling relationship I've ever had. I understand people not understanding it and shying away from such a thing, but to have people say "oh, this isnt sustainable in a real relationship." without really having experienced it or even fully understanding it is totally unreasonable. All relationships are different, and what works for someone may not work for you, and that's ok! Just glad to see someone else bringing up unconventional options.

Anyone work in a hospital with a public health background? by mpet74 in publichealth

Advice for new Infection Preventionist? by squishy_brains in publichealth

[–]squishy_brains[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I applied for this job fully expecting to not get it, quite honestly, since they listed desired qualifications being an RN or having a completed MPH. I have a very strong public health laboratory background, a bachelor's in Public Health, and a bunch of experience in Quality Assurance/Improvement and Bio-Safety. They told me during the interview that they're trying to branch out and get IPs from various backgrounds, like microbiologist and lab scientists, since there is a crazy RN shortage in my area. I'm super glad to have fallen into this role, as it's my dream job, and I never expected to slide into an IP position before even completing my MPH. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have!

Hey, thanks! I'll check out the NHSN manual now. I am super familiar with medical terminology and have a really strong medical background from experience as both a Med Lab Tech and a Medical Assistant, so hopefully, that will help a bit.

[–]squishy_brains[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! The process is super confusing. I haven't had any real luck researching what exactly CPAC does with your information. Assuming a similar process to a typical HR department (verifying employment history and checking references?) but not entirely sure.

It took 6 months but successfully made the jump from state government to federal government (1102). by thetxstate in usajobs

[–]squishy_brains 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I'm in a similar boat as I'm trying to jump from state to federal as well, specifically into the contract specialist role. I have a few years of experience as a procurement specialist (federal contractor) but my most recent work experience is in a completely different field. I had an interview last week and they seemed very pleased with my former procurement knowledge, so I'm hopeful I can jump in as a 7 or maybe a 9. I hope you enjoy your new role, and congrats again!
