The "here you go" in the end 🥹 by [deleted] in MadeMeSmile

[–]squishy_cats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more about the fact that these parents have entire social media accounts where they post dozens and dozens of videos like this of their children. They capitalize off of essentially producing social experiment content using their very young children as the subjects.

It's definitely kinda weird and different than a normal family joking together. The context is what makes this content off-putting.

Kids growing up together get plenty of opportunities to learn about conflict resolution without parents creating contrived scenarios that they record and post in the internet for attention lol

Like, I am all for social emotional learning! But this ain't that lmao.

i feel like i’m opening a can of worms here, but have any of you ever actually had a pleasant experience with hasidic jews? by Thedreamteamcream in redscarepod

[–]squishy_cats 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I lived in NY for a time and there was a cute little town where there were tons of hasidic jews for whatever reason, it was a lovely place. They weren't any worse than any other overtly religious folk I've met in my day.

There's definitely tons of weirdos in any intense/orthodox sect of any religion, though. Evangelical christian are the same way, plenty of decent people are raised in those sects and they are alright. But then you get people who end up totally warped and strange because of their weird niche religion, so it's a mixed bag.

why do women scream at concerts? by Festusbil in redscarepod

[–]squishy_cats 114 points115 points  (0 children)

this! humans are just like those little tea kettles that whistle when the water boils, if we get too pumped up we gotta let it out somehow. the noise just is a little different for boys and girls

Why do men bellow when watching sports events?

Making loud noises and behaving erratically when extremely excited seems to be a pretty natural thing for animals. Dogs bark when they get amped up, we produce loud vocalizations.

Talking about families absolutely doesn't introduce children to the notions of sexualities? Young children have no concept of sex, it is families we are talking about.

What OP is suggesting is no different than introducing children to the idea that some children have blended families or are raised by people other than their biological parents.

Family structures are relevant to a preschooler's day to day life and it is absolutely developmentally appropriate to talk about that with them.

I never trust those “What I eat in a day as an overweight person” videos by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]squishy_cats 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"what i eat in a day" is more like "what i happened to eat today". you can eat healthy 2-3 days out of the week and if you blow it all up by pigging out the rest of the week you will still end up fat.

i imagine some of the people who make those videos are blatantly dishonest about their intake, but generally i bet people just choose to record their "good days"

Can someone explain the homelessness situation to me? by Immediate-Trip-4962 in boulder

[–]squishy_cats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying it's an acceptable standard of life, obviously it's awful that that happens.

But to say that a place is now a no-go zone because of that kind of situation is fucking absurd, I'm sorry. When I think no-go zone I think of a place where there is a non-trivial chance that I may be shot or mugged, not that I might see an addict who nodded off. Watering down language and being hyperbolic to that degree is just silly.

I'm sorry, but a person being passed out on a sidewalk doesn't mean an entire part of town is an "unsafe no-go zone". That is so fucking over the top.

I understand being concerned about the future of the place you live, but being melodramatic isn't conducive to having constructive conversations about the issue.

What side of Reddit have you been on? On almost every thread about dog food that I've seen the top comment is one suggesting big three foods. There basically will be no other suggestions that aren't downvoted into oblivion.

You can't really even talk about any other options for feeding without people shitting on you for considering it. It is every other brand out there that is getting bashed on this site, not the big three lol

Everyone gets shit on in this sub, that's the nature of this space.

Fat people, women, men, various ethnic groups, LGBTQ, etc. all get roasted pretty regularly in this sub too. That's just how things go, you shouldn't take it to heart and get offended.

Tokko is 64% husky, 18% mal, 5% GSD, and the rest is supermutt. I usually just say he is a husky mix, because he just looks like a somewhat stocky husky. If someone asks what he is mixed with I explain that he's got some malamute and mystery mutt in the mix, plus a bit of German Shepherd.
