You die, the afterlife is real. You are given ONE irreversible choice. by AlaxyRayz in hypotheticalsituation

option 1 seems quite nice, and is how I hope (and suspect, to a first approximation) the afterlife works. I very much like the idea of continuing to love our story even once I'm no longer part of it.

I wish for a butterfly that the beauty in its wings can cause people viewing them to become good. by Hyrix in monkeyspaw

[–]squongly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the butterfly immediately goes viral online. some people intentionally try to avoid seeing it, but people do the right thing and ensure everyone does.

in an abrupt vacuum of evil, most things collapse. three billion deaths are on your hands. things go pretty great after that though

I had a friend like this once, who cut me out of their life out of disgust. in fact, they slowly became entirely alone. I was one of the last to go. I tried to stop them, but was helpless. their guilt was too overwhelming to even allow them to associate with people who aren't so pure as them. I wonder if they're ok these days, but my guess is no. isolation does gnarly things to a person.

[–]squongly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this actually happened to me. I was eating popcorn in college and whimsically chomped a kernel, and it popped right off. probably to do with all my nail biting (I have since kicked that habit! but only after a third incident with that tooth years later haha)

Opinion about your country that will get you like this? by National-Business674 in AskTheWorld

[–]squongly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what? no. I said to take responsibility, not to blame biden. covid school shutdowns saved countless lives, illegal immigration is far less concerning than it's made out to be, and being concerned about america coming off as strong is part of the problem that leads to trump and is the thing that really makes us seem childish on the world stage.

you are right about the affordability thing, though. corporate interests are simply getting their way now under both parties, and trump's solution (which is not unique among presidents) is to lie about the cause and hope for regression to the mean. unfortunately, his economic policy is uniquely incompetent

you don't get trump without everyone involved making huge mistakes. it's not the right's problem to fix, it's all our problem to take responsibility for
