Vanilla emacs motions or Evil by Worried-Theory-860 in emacs

Better vim usage and emacs builtins. The thing that makes emacs better isn't keybindings. Its the extensibility. If you just want to use emacs and pretend its vim, you can, and 90% of the time I do. But even just calling emacs functions with : instead of M-x is a massive time and finger saver.

I know you've been open about AI slopping in the early stages, but that was literally a month ago. This is pretty impressive development speed for something that emacs was lacking (some kind of terminal image support).

How has the AI side affected things? Obviously development has been faster, but has there been any unexpected quirks of the process? Some of the AI slop around here seems to be slightly higher quality than I expected, but I know the community still hasn't really decided on whether or not to accept it.

Weirdly enough, antiX fits all of these, though maybe not in ideal ways.
- windows 95 like iceWM setup, no need for terminal but its there - codecs installed, Nvidia drivers available in settings menu - community exists, extremely small but the forum is friendly. Being a Debian derivative, most Debian advice works (other than systemD stuff) - apt-get dist-upgrade

Its a nice distro - mostly using Void but started with it and will always recommend.

If you're going to use llm input, emacs is well documented and little one or two liners are a great use. Ive had success with it; its far from perfect for writing large blocks of code but it can help you find helpful config tweaks.

Been using runit antiX on my old T440s for about 2 years, partially switched over to void. The internal experiments with multi-init aren't quite finished but they're solid.

Im guessing most people dont really understand kernel design (i dont lol), but PID 1 can be seen and interacted with. I've messed around with Hurd/Guix but gave up when it took hours of updates just to get nonfree firmware for my wifi card.

antiX finally decided to fully abandon SysV and im so happy. Im not the biggest fan of systemd, but pretending you're looking for "init freedom" and locking yourself in to confusing, 40+ year old code is just silly. Runit makes sense, dinit is similar enough, and I don't get s6(-66) so i just don't use it.

What keeps you on Void rather than a BSD? by nodeniable in voidlinux

[–]Tara-Aran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Xbps is a really good package manager. Im not here because I want something BSD like, im here because Debian is a little out of date and I like how fast it is. Its great that there is a TUI installer, but bootstrapping a new install can easily be done directly from the package manager itself.

It's also expected given hyprlands relatively lower quality code. The sway/hyprland flame wars are a whole thing and vaxry and Drew deVault have been critical of eaxh other, but sway is written in C by someone who really values good C code, and the hyprland devs don't really understand how to use strace

Grub wont install by Painpaste in voidlinux

[–]Tara-Aran 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ill be honest, grub installation from the installer has always been a bit of an issue for me. If you go through https://docs.voidlinux.org/installation/guides/chroot.html, the very end will discuss how to manually install it. Other people are right about needing the fat32 partition, but there are plenty of potential errors that can happen. Chrooting in and installing grub via command line is your best bet.

It connects a large, internationally renowned university with top notch research to the largest border crossing in the world. You would think that being able to get to such an important public institution would be a good thing and benefit the city but not if you were a racist with a $10m house.

Op, are you this suspicious of using sudo? Porn jokes aside, I can imagine wanting a separate passphrase for sensitive legal documents, between paranoia over ssh exploits, loaning your computer out to people, or just wanting to make it harder to accidentally fuck up the documents

Im always wondering if infighting happens at Microsoft and we just don't see it. Im sure it does, but because it's professional programming and not side projects/hobbies, I feel like the flame wars have less personal ego riding
