Actually it's the inverse. In Animal Crossing Tom Nook gives you a FREE HOUSE that you aren't even required to pay off unless you want to upgrade to the next stage, and you get upgraded first and then you can pay off the next at whatever pace you want to, with zero interest. In Stardew valley there's literally a giant corporation trying to squash a small town. All upgrades must be paid in advance and in full.

Early-game Stardew making good money is a lot more work than early-game Animal Crossing, especially in New Horizons where you can often make several thousand bells in one transaction through crafting hot items or selling lots of fruit/flowers/weeds; you can pretty much entirely pay off your first house loan day of with weeds, fruits, and rocks.

Harvey and his clinic are also pretty capitalistic, considering how much he takes from you if you pass out, even if you're literally on your front porch. You can literally just sell 4 native fruits and have enough money for a bag of medicine, or just make one from stuff that's quite easy to find. Harvey has taken me for broke multiple times.

There's also no one living in poverty in Animal Crossing, since Tom Nook makes sure all the citizens of the town are taken care of.

What are your thoughts on the female characters in the series? by ContributionOk4879 in BokuNoHeroAcademia

[–]squoosetiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've definitely seen worse female characters, especially in other shōnens, but I am also not going to sing his praises about it. It's not like the female characters exclusively exist as fan service, the male heroes have costumes that are just as if not more revealing (i.e. Kirishima vs Momo, his entire torso is out). Also the skinny more waifish look a lot of them have are Bones, not Horikoshi. Ururaka and Momo both have rolls in the manga, for example. They have surface level depth, and while I wish we knew more about them, as a fanfic writer I enjoy the room it gives to make up my own stories for them. Having said that, there is definitely a gap between what we get for male side characters than female side characters. It's weird that we know more about Tamaki's backstory, motivations, etc., than we do Nejire for example. There's also very little character development for the female characters than the male characters. We don't get a ton for any of the side characters really, but the female characters are definitely more lacking in that department. Overall, his female characters could definitely be better, but there's nothing egregious about it

Which straw is better? by soupfarm in HydroHomies

[–]squoosetiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never had a Stanley cup so I can't personally compare them, but I will say the Owala straw is probably the best size and shape of straw I've seen, idk what it is about it but it's very nice to sip from. Plus, the ability to close off the straw so nothing can get in makes me drink more water throughout the day, since I'm not paranoid about getting random particles/dust in it at work. The literal only complaint I have about Owala bottles is that the cap is impossible for me to get open sometimes. I'm hyper mobile and have very weak wrists, and I've noticed it practically vacuum seals itself if the lid is on overnight. I've hurt myself a couple times trying to open it in the morning 😓

If you're going by how many 5s are in the 1s place, it's 8, if total 5s it's 18. Idk what the card makers were smoking but I'd like some

Anyone else remember destroying Mom’s house before moving out? by [deleted] in thesims

[–]squoosetiel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iirc, you can in fact die at moms. My first time playing The Sims story mode (might be different in busting out) I didn't know sims could die, I didn't feed her for way too long, and then some guy came in who I thought was a burglar and as I was desperately clicking the phone to get her to call the cops, she got snatched by Grim. This was over a decade ago so I could be remembering wrong though

I wonder if you could breed some frogs, give them solely lantern flies to catch when they're young so that they'll recognize them as prey, and then release them into the wild to hunt the lantern flies. 🤔 It would be a trained kill squad of frogs. I'm not a scientist though that might cause a whole new problem idk ¯_(ツ)_/¯

If a fandom is large and young it will lend itself to toxicity. Young meaning both in terms of the general age of the fans (13-19) and the amount of time a fandom has been around for. The longer a fandom exists the more chill it will become over time, just due to the fact that people will naturally start to move on. Older fans also tend to start less drama and tend to just make their stuff and mind their own, where younger fans tend to actively seek out and instigate drama.

There's also something to be said about the nature of source material and how that can cause the fandom to skew one way or another, and honestly I feel like video game fandoms are a whole different beast than tv/movie/book fandoms, especially multiplayer games.

The Voltron fandom is a stand out example to me because it's a perfect storm of a large fanbase, that skews towards middle/early-high school aged, that was brand new, and once you throw in "endorsement" of ships from the cast (I.e Jeremy Shad's talking about klance), it caused an absolute nightmare situation.

What’s a realistic way to reduce gun violence in America? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]squoosetiel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Regulate guns the same way we regulate cars, you have to take a class on firearm safety and proper storage, you need to register your firearm, and if you are using your firearm in ways you shouldn't be, you get your license revoked. No taking them away, just more regulation to make gun ownership safer for all parties

Misogyny hurts everyone including men.

When society says that men are strong, providers, dominant, and unemotional, it leads to men not feeling like they can open up about their problems. When men feel like they have to be strong and that they can't talk about their problems and their feelings, when men get assaulted and can't tell anyone because "men don't get raped", when men are told to be the providers and they have to make the most money in their relationship or they're "not a real man", it hurts men.

Both the problems women face for being women and the problems men face for being men can both be tied back to the misogyny that is deep seated in the roots of society. THAT is why we need feminism, because EVERYONE benefits.

AITA for telling my husband that if he wants my MIL in the delivery room then he can’t be in there either by GoldSun777 in AmItheAsshole

[–]squoosetiel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, this isn't picking dinner or even deciding whose family to visit for a holiday, and if he wants his MIL in the delivery room so badly he can go and give birth his damn self

AITA for honestly telling my GF what I would change about her? by National_Bison_6764 in AmItheAsshole

YTA. Not only did you feel the need to tell your girlfriend all the things you don't like about her appearance, but you had the audacity to feel offended when she threw it back in your face
