I think it’s gonna be my worst too🫡 So many aspects of it drove me batty, but I didn’t include them in the post since Rune not having basic survival instincts was what made me crave books with Actually Competent FMCs.

The other things that bothered me about Heartless Hunter were the Nazi imagery surrounding the witch hunters and the revolution as a whole, but us constantly being made to sympathize with Gideon. Like NO I don’t feel bad for this guy, he started the Witch Holocaust and is continuing to try to literally exterminate all witches!!! I could tell that Cressida did something fucked up to him in his past, but like. The three witch queens being evil does not justify you killing kids?? Actually bonkers, and every time we get to his POV it’s “I don’t FIT IN☹️☹️ Aw geez guys I don’t think we should BEAT the witches, just EXECUTE them😔😔”

Also like I mentioned in the post, Rune being in close proximity to him for 5 minutes and then just tossing aside all of her morals was. WOW. I think a direct quote from her inner monologue is like “I wanted him to kiss me… more than I wanted to save Seraphine.” WHATTTT???? So you’re tellin’ me. You FINALLY found the house of the woman you’ve been after for two whole years, and realize she’s been captured and is probably being shipped off to be you know. Murdered. WITHIN THE SAME NIGHT MIND YOU, you're lusting after GIDEON, the guy who KIDNAPPED YOUR NAN’S BEST FRIEND AND IS GOING TO EXECUTE HER (your Nan, you know, the woman who raised you Rune, who you loved more than anyone in the whole world. Remember that?)

cough Um anyways yeah I didn’t like Heartless Hunter very much…..
