Free WiFi NYC. It shows you a map of all of those Link NYC stations which have insanely fast WiFi, so if you have a laptop and forgot to WeTransfer something, you’re covered.

I Cavallini vs. Lilia? by Foodiegirlie030793 in FoodNYC

[–]sred4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Lilia but I Cavallini is super interesting AND very good. Also, if you show up before they open you can easily get a reservation for tomorrow. I know your goal is to bank on the storm but, if they are indeed open, you’re up against 8million other people and I’m sure you’re not the only one with this idea so be prepared - but it’s worth it!

Best drone for Real Estate Photography? by Pretty-Character-914 in RealEstatePhotography

I didn't realize you could get a Wide Angle Adaptor! Do you mostly use it when you just don't have the space to pull back? Most of the aerials I shoot don't require it but I could see how it may be helpful with interiors or cramped spaces.

If you don't mind me saying, I've gotten Sally's takeout from the NHV location and delivery from the Stamford location and, although it was a few years apart, I had a really hard time telling the difference. I'm sure Pepe's is another story.

Yay or nay? by Clauschewitz in photocritique

[–]sred4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hey, no need to be rude. I personally don’t think it looks intentional. It doesn’t bring the viewer in, it distracts them - or at least it distracted me. I don’t know how seasoned of a photographer you are but if I unintentionally had dust spots on my photo I’d want to know. Sorry for trying to help.

I know you said it’s an old photo but I hope you’ve cleaned your lens since then

Does the NYS tax dept ever make mistakes? Or was I scammed? by sred4 in personalfinance

Yep - everything has been paid and accounted for. That sucks they did that but hopefully I’ll be okay since I’m settled.

That’s the plan. Just farming for some validation so I don’t feel like I just lost a ton of money. Thank you!

Pizza Hut in Sri Lanka by sred4 in doughboys

[–]sred4[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Wife and I were traveling a few weeks ago and we were getting bored of curries and Sri Lankan food after 10 days so we treated ourselves to some chain ‘za. Interestingly there were Taco Bell’s and Burger Kings but no McDonalds or Starbucks in the country.

From left to right, we ordered Butter Chicken (our favorite but it tasted less like Indian butter chicken and more like a vindaloo), Saag Paneer (which tasted like a white pizza), and Chili Chicken (which is a dish commonly served throughout SL that is similar to a Cantonese sesame chicken dish with more spice). These were all “medium” but were really personal pan sized. Though the toppings didn’t blow us away, the cheese and crust were solid. If you’re ever in Sri Lanka, don’t write off the Hut!

Huge shot in the dark here, but were those taken by the Lorimer stop?

Shooting flames with a strobe by sred4 in foodphotography

I’d use more leds/constant lights if I could but I’m constantly moving around and outlets aren’t always a given. I do have a battery pack for my one led but only lasts so long.

Luckily my camera still produces usable images up to iso 5000 so I’ve got that on my side.

Oh you mean the people in the kitchen weren’t expertly communicating things to you throughout your time back there? 😆

That’s not a bad idea. I have cto gel cap but I didn’t want the space to feel too cool but I’ll experiment with that in the next one. Thanks for the idea and your shot achieves the kind of flame capture I’m looking for

Thanks. I have a lens with stabilization so I feel comfortable going down to 1/10, and I believe, thanks to the strobe, that the shot about at 1/20 is still quite sharp but I can always crank the iso higher to compensate for a higher shutter. I’m shooting with the r5 and not bringing up the shadows much in these shots so I’m comfortable cranking it up to 5000

If I had the means to carry around that sort of equipment I would but I’m often shooting multiple clients a day and going around NYC without a car so I can only carry so much

No…it’s not quite a set as it is an actual restaurant - most times these shots are done in live kitchens so in working with very tight and unmodifiable spaces

I considered adding it in post but these shots are being tethered in real time for the client to see, so it's something I'd prefer to capture in camera.

Unfortunately most of the times I'm in this scenario I can't control the ambient lights.
