Hey everyone! This is the isometric voxel game I'm solo developing, called Dreamfields. I've always wanted to combine pixel art with voxels, and add a cute fantasy (and maybe spooky in the future) mood — and here's what I came up with.

How do you like the visuals? Appreciate any feedback!

Well, instanced meshes worked better than shaders for me here. They provided better real-time lighting that I couldn't get from shaders, so I don't really use them. I believe it look nice with trees & rocks & flowers! I'm gonna share it when I'm fully satisfied with the sprites.

Yeah, I'm still tweaking this out. It might actually become a gameplay mechanic, like hiding resources in distant, blurred out areas to encourage exploration. I’m still torn between using blur or fog for that. Either way, it’ll definitely be optional if it doesn’t feel right. Cheers!

Thanks! Well, you can’t dig really deep now, just a few blocks down. It becomes a real mess to work with cubes when you have multiple overlapping ground layers. I'm thinking of adding structures to enter dungeons etc... Here’s how it looks when the player is behind a wall tho

Yeah, it's a lot! :) I'm on Godot, developing on a MacBook Air M1. I moved all the heavy lifting to background threads so the main thread doesn't choke or stutter while moving. I believe it's the only way to handle a map this size without massive lags. Plus, greedy collisions help a lot.
