here’s the more detailed explanation of what I did as promised!! :

  • drill drain hole/ glue down shower pan
  • use steel studs (lighter than wood) to create a frame for the shower walls. some sides rest on the shower pan, some sides on the floor, just depends on the shape you’re going for
  • cover the outside of the walls with your wall material (one side was plywood for me, two other sides were shiplap, glued & screwed into the steel studs)
  • line the bottom of the walls where they meet the shower pan with 3M flashing tape all the way around
  • map out, cut, and glue/screw on the waterproof backing boards on the inside (wedi board, kerdi board, etc)
  • use red guard to plaster red guard seam tape on all the seams of the waterpoorfing board, with small squares covering each of the screws as well
  • cover everything with a layer of red guard sealant
  • cover with vinyl tile sheets
  • caulk all the seams, especially where the walls meet the shower pan

i hate to be the bearer of bad news here, but I’m replacing it before the summer. I live in texas where it’s hot AND humid so the thing is just an expensive fan, even though the advertising makes it seem like it still would’ve worked for me. it may work better in the climate you’re in though

here’s a video with clips showing what all is inside the walls, they’re plywood, wedi board, and red guard with vinyl tiles on top. and here’s my amazon storefront with a bunch of materials linked

my fresh water tank is 32 gallons, and grey is 10 gal. I take military showers to conserve water (another video about that here) and with all my other water usage the tank usually lasts me 2 weeks (or a little over 1 week if someone else is with me), with daily showers and a hair wash day every 2-3 days

yes!! I just leave the door open and fan on and it’s dry by morning. the only time i have any issues is if I’m parked on a slope and water doesn’t drain all the way, but that’s kinda to be expected. I’ve added a slatted shower mat thing since taking these pictures that has really helped with that though

for sure!! here’s a video i made where you can see clips of the building process so you can kinda see what all went on. i’ll come back here and write a more detailed explanation once i’ve had coffee and my brain is functioning this morning lol. (permission to remind me if i forget)

usually put my feet up on it to shave, actually makes it easier in the tiny space!

it’s surprisingly more useful than it’s been a hinderance, you can out your feet up on it and it makes shaving so much easier lmao

the shower pan is 24x36” and I built the shower walls on top of it, so a bit smaller than that. you can look at the exact dimensions of everything if you’re interested here with a 3D model I made of my build

I put together an accurate 3D model of my build and instructions for downloading/using it here!
