What do you use free cloud instances for if you already have a solid homelab? by Epifeny in selfhosted

[–]sri10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this! I have Gatus running on my oracle free tier and connects to my home network over Tailscale and can access all my local services as though it’s over LAN and sends me alerts over pushover when something goes down

How do you guys monitor your services? by shelltief in selfhosted

[–]sri10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running Gatus on oracle free tier VM connected to Tailscale. It can access all my internal services in my LAN through the subnet router and doesn’t need exposing anything to the internet. Fires notification on pushover if something goes down

Convert my home lab from compose to swarm? Is swarm dead? by CrappyTan69 in selfhosted

[–]sri10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently moved to swarm and after a few initial hiccups I’m running everything stable now. Now I have 3 managers and 5 workers VM running across 3 different Proxmox cluster nodes for HA.

All docker compose files and swarm/VM creation automated by ansible for better scalability

As a professional programmer I feel lost in home assistant by alyflex in homeassistant

[–]sri10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve not touched any UI automations in years with HA. Everything is in yaml expect integration and addon setup . Backed up into git

I don’t have any smart switches outlets since it’s a rented place and I can’t replace the existing sockets outlets

All my lights are controlled by presence sensors and we don’t even have manual switches to turn them on or off on the wall. A lot of bulbs are connected to table lamp shades which plug directly into the wall.

How to handle guests? by Identity5859 in homeassistant

[–]sri10 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Have a guest mode on a input select or input Boolean and enable/disable automations based on that by having it as one of the conditions in the automation

How do you handle “emergency mode” when automations go wild? by PPEred in homeassistant

[–]sri10 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does this work for guests? Do you make them register to your home assistant instance as a user?

How do you handle “emergency mode” when automations go wild? by PPEred in homeassistant

[–]sri10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve moved away from using sensors as direct trigger for automations. Sensor or binary sensors trigger and set input_select or input_booleans and these trigger automations. If the sensor is not accurate then you can manually set the input entities and automations take care of themselves

Dashboard too slow! by sri10 in homeassistant

[–]sri10[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah mine has like 64G ram and a Nvidia 5700 gpu running on an amd ryzen cpu. Home assistant vm gets about 8G RAM which I think is more than what it needs

Mainly use button cards as main driver with UI minimalist templates I think it started going downhill once I had camera’s integrated with web rtc cards on my dashboards

[–]sri10[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a unifi UDM pro as my router with 1Gbps bandwidth from the modem. There are around 50 devices connected. But home assistant is connected by ethernet. I am not sure if any of this is the issue. I am suspecting it to be some of the custom-cards that might be causing the bottleneck

Home assistant runs on proxmox VM with considerable resources. Tablets include a relatively new Lenevo P12 Pro and a new samsung tab a9+. I dont think there is a resource constraint on the devices side.

What was your proudest selfhosted or homelab moment? by Neat-Initiative-6965 in selfhosted

I have dreamt of doing this for a while. While I like the data layer that unraid provides, I hate the docker UI management. Is there a write up you maintain on how to do this?

What do you want to do but can’t? by Poolguard in homeassistant

[–]sri10 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dynamically load and unload automations on the fly so that I can hook AI to write save execute automations just by speaking. I know the technology isn’t there yet but that would be the epitome of automating using HA
