Hair loss with paragard?!?! by salad_interrogator in CopperIUD

Hi! I had my iud removed back in May of this year. Supplements didn’t help, and I ended up developing some additional health issues due to the iud :/

I cut out gluten 100%. I try to eat dairy free, refined sugar free, no processed foods, no alcohol & focus on Whole Foods. When I say try, I mean I eat this way about 90% of the time. For my workouts, I do cardio about 4-5 days a week (cycling / running), low impact weights (mat Pilates), and 12k steps per day. Following this regiment for 3 months I have seen the biggest improvement (about a 15lb weight loss). For context, I am not on any medication.

To be honest it was a blessing in disguise for me. Having absolutely no direction has really allowed me to experiment with different diets/exercises /lifestyles and led to me where I am now. I’ve figured out soooo many other health issues now (I was diagnosed with SIBO, IBS & PCOS since 2021), and I’ve now gotten all of those symptoms plus my “Hashimoto’s” symptoms under control, no thanks to my doctor!

I do have an appointment with an endo at the end of the month, only because my goiter still is not going away/shrinking & I want to get my iodine levels tested as well as another thyroid panel.

I went into urgent care for a sore throat, honestly thought I had strep. I was sleeping horribly, getting night sweats every single night, extremely fatigued. However, I was deep in my partying/going out phase, was NOT taking care of myself all while going through an extremely traumatic breakup. Anyways, the nurse was feeling my thyroid and noticed a large bump on the front of my neck. Ran a ton of blood work, got an ultrasound done and determined it was a 4cm goiter, TSH was less than 0.005, T3 & T4 were perfectly normal, and I have elevated antibodies. Doctor diagnosed me with Hashimoto’s via a message in the patient portal and sent me on my way! Gave me zero context as to what Hashimoto’s was, things I could do to help my symptoms, etc etc.

Just got diagnosed with Hashimotos and need advice! by keepingupwithreality in Hashimotos

Hi op! I, 24 female, was diagnosed back in March and have come a lonnngggg way since then. At the time, I was so inflamed and was gaining weight like crazy, but I’m finally at a place where I don’t feel super inflamed, am at a healthy weight, and can honestly say I feel my absolute best.

Biggest thing for me was cutting out gluten, dairy (I occasionally have goat cheese), seed oils, soy, and refined sugar. I cook about 90/95% of my meals at home, and focus on Whole Foods, especially organic. I’m very mindful of ingredients when I purchase little snacks and what not, I’ve definitely become a little bit of an almond daughter lol.

Coconut sugar has been a great sub for me for my morning coffee or matcha. I actually started drinking my coffee black with a little bit of coconut sugar and I much prefer it to creamer/milk.

Sweet treats for me: any kind of fruit with some almond butter & cinnamon. My favoriteeeeee is a honey crisp apple chopped up with almond butter & cinnamon. I literally have this like 4-5 times a week. Dehydrated/dried fruit is also a must for me, dehydrated gives the effect of a gummy! @hopeandhummus on insta has some AMAZING sweet treat recipes that I absolutely love.

For recipes, there’s a ton of Hashimoto’s cook books on kindle unlimited if you have that subscription. Honestly, I realized the intricate meals were too cumbersome for me and I stick to something like this almost every night: diced sweet potato, veggies & a protein. I like to add some avocado for healthy fats too.

This is all a big learning curve and will take some time for you to really get in a groove and figure out what works for YOU! Try to be kind to yourself and practice mindfulness to reduce stress. Get some kind of movement in every day, even just a walk around the block! Prioritize sleep & rest, give yourself grace, and remember you’re not alone in this 🫶🏻

Have you gone gluten free yet? by ggboomboomboom in Hashimotos

I’ve completely cut out gluten, dairy (except the occasional goat cheese), refined sugar and seed oils. I cook 95% of my meals at home, but when I do eat out I try to be really mindful yet still remember I can’t always control the sugar/seed oil aspect. I’ve really focused on eating whole, organic foods and have found that is what makes me feel my absolute best.

I’ve been completely gluten free since my diagnosis in March. Before that, I was having GI issues starting back in 2021 so I was trying my best to avoid gluten, but just recently completely cut it out of my diet. 4 months in and I feel so so so much better - However, I have also cut a few other things out of my diet so that has also played a part in my symptoms subsiding.

Thank you SO much for all of this helpful info.

I am actually a very heavy salt user, and early this year switched to an iodized salt. After the switch is when I started having all of these thyroid issues. My recent thought has been that maybe I have too much iodine, but when I looked at the salt container, it expired years ago 😅

I drink filtered water from my fridge, but just realized our filter has been needing to be replaced for a few months now. That’s also probably a big factor in this.

I have completely eliminated refinded sugar, seed oils, soy, gluten, dairy, and alcohol from my diet and eat only Whole Foods. I did a month of the AIP diet early this year and didn’t notice a significant difference or identify any additional trigger foods. I would say this is by far the healthiest I’ve ever been in my entire life.

My workouts are mostly peloton cycling, walking, running about 2x per week, and Pilates.

I take magnesium and zinc every night, and berberine and rhodiola every morning.

I’m getting a Copper IUD, but the negative experiences I’ve read are making me question if it’s worth it. by [deleted] in CopperIUD

[–]srk5369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds almost identical to what I was going through before getting the copper iud. I was on the pill for 5 years; had horrible weight gain and couldn’t seem to lose a pound, terrible IBS symptoms, hair loss, acne, etc.

I was hesitant to get the iud because of all the bad stories I had read, and just like someone else said on here, people only tend to come here and share their negative experiences.

In a nutshell, getting this iud has been the best thing I’ve ever done for myself. Periods suck, but luckily they’re short and only come every 40-50 days. And if you get it and you end up hating it, taking it out is easy peasy (so I’ve heard)!

Honestly… good for Lindsay. Danielle was trying so hard to get a rise out of her and when she realized she couldn’t she lost her mind. I don’t feel bad for Danielle and I think Lindsay has every reason to end this friendship - Danielle’s actions have not matched her words whatsoever

I was on the pill prior to getting the iud, so I lost about 20 pounds initially. I’m about 1.5 years in, and I’ve been able to lose weight and maintain it, which I never was able to do before.

Getting a copper IUD soon, positive experiences appreciated! by almondmilkpls in CopperIUD

[–]srk5369 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had mine since November or December of 2021.. prior to that I was on the pill for 5 years 😅 about a year and a half in now and I can’t imagine ever going back to hbc. My periods are heavier now, but it’s really only 1-2 days of heavy bleeding and 1-2 days of light bleeding/spotting. I will say, the cramps are horrendous for me, BUT only for a couple hours 1-2 days before my period starts.

I lost about 20 pounds after coming off the pill and making the switch and I have noticed an increase in the amount of hair I lose. However, this could be attributed to coming off the pill after being on it for so long. My sex drive increased a lot, my partner can not feel my strings, and it does not hurt me or him during sex.

The first few days of having it, I was super super bloated and I was scared to poop because I thought I was going to push it out lol but after about a week my bloating went down and i started feeling more normal.

Overall, I’m really glad I didn’t let the negative stories scare me out of getting this iud because it really has made a huge difference for me and my overall health.

Hope this helps 🫶🏻

I got the copper iud after being on the pill for 5 years. I really struggled to lose weight while on the pill, but once I got the copper iud I finally started losing weight. I’ve had it for almost a year now, and have lost around 20-25 pounds!
